New Head of Gaming at Microsoft, Asha Sharma, is certainly making it obvious she is all about changing the brand’s fortunes. We have had the cut in Game Pass price and the rumors of a new starter tier for the service which will cut the cost right down (at the expense of the games you will get to play), and now, we have some new branding.
I mean, it’s not exactly a wild rebranding, but it definitely leans into a mix of the old and the new. For anybody who remembers the green glory days of the OG Xbox all those years ago, it has a tinge of that screen that used to boot with it. Then there is a little 360 in there, and, well, it’s like if you said to ChatGPT, mix these logos together – you don’t think they did, did they?
Only joking, we actually like the new green X, and so do plenty of others if the comments are anything to go by.
Other brands with green logos indulged in some of that sickening corporate brand chit chat on social media that seems to be all the rage. Mountain Dew and Razer were largely responsible for that, but the signs are clear: things are changing at Xbox at a time when they definitely needed to.
The tweet showing off the logo came with a simple “We are Xbox” message, which kind of sounds more like something a sports team might use, but at least it’s not that “Everything is Xbox” nonsense from a few months back.
