Update: In an earnings calls with investors Ubisoft has confirmed a financial year Q1 release for Watch Dogs, meaning an April-June window.

Original report: Watch Dogs, the open-world cyber crime game, will now be released in spring 2014, Ubisoft has announced.

The game had been scheduled to launch November 22 for Xbox 360, PS3, Xbox One and PC, with the PS4 version to follow alongside the console's launch.

It now won't launch any sooner than April 2014.

"Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we've made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014," reads a statement from the Watch_Dogs development teams.

"We know a lot of you are probably wondering why now? We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and during other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion is what drives us.

"We can't wait to see you in Chicago next Spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it."

VideoGamer.com Analysis

We can't help but think the huge success and critical acclaim lavished on GTA 5 has had more than a little influence on Ubisoft's decision to push Watch Dogs into 2014.

Welp, expecting an email from GAME in the week, see what they have to say on the matter. Really annoying considering this is making my PS4 less desirable looking...

The only reason they have for delaying this game is that the trenchcoat physics weren't ready yet.

Oh... well I hope that your bundle doesn't get delayed. Maybe they will just send the game when it releases seperately.

Damn it, i was planning on getting this for one of my PS4 starter games. Looks like it will have to be Killzone and Drive Club on there own and a few indies to top me off. I just wish Infamous SS was a launch game.

Damn, but hardly surprising - they would have cannibalised their own sales (of AC4). Ah well, I was planning on keeping my 360 for a good while yet, so that's something big to play next year!

The "Two Months Are Enough to Visit Los Santos" marketing gimmick seems to have backfired.
