The Division, which stood out as one of the most exciting games for Xbox One and PS4 during last year's E3, may now miss its planned 2014 release date, a source from developer Ubisoft Massive has told Gamereactor.

It seems whoever schedules Ubisoft's release dates and the team at Massive aren't on the same page.

"The game engine works well, it's not done but works well. The actual game development has barely started, however," the source claims.

"The fact that Ubisoft has gone public with a 2014 release date feels laughable to be perfectly honest, we will never be able to release The Division this year. It's a large project, and we have very far to go."

Ubisoft chose not to comment on rumours of a delay when questioned by VideoGamer.com.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

Ubisoft's next-gen scheduling hasn't gone all that smoothly thus far, with both Watch Dogs and The Crew also suffering considerable delays. Neither title has a firm launch date at this time.

i bought a Xbox one because of watch dogs and i think it is a joke and it is a disappoint that it was not released yet and the division delayed that is another joke i don't think it is right if another good game comes out the same time as watch dogs and the division cause more people will properly buy all 3 of the games and the games are not cheap!!!!!!!! also metal gear solid if it is a 2 hrs demo it should be free shouldn't have to pay for demos that's why they are demos not full games??????

3 things. 1: the gameplay looks phenominal. 2: They better not fail us on a newer next gen game. 3: Have faith

I completely agree Gonzoimperial. The longer we wait the better the game is. This game is going to be revolutionary!

Honestly I would rather wait and it be the best it can be than get it early with a lot of problems. Patience is a virtue. This game will be Epic.

I still not sold on this game the problem I have is Ubisoft have never produced a solid multiplayer on any of the shooters. They have all had tons of bugs and glitches so with division being a open world game I can't see it being any different. Plus they have stuck with the cheaper future gadgets that makes everything so easy.

It's hard to find a console, so you'll have to wait anyway. X1 is available in droves, tho

Balls. Was looking forwards to this.

Next gen is looking weaker by the day for 2014, I'm starting to wish I'd put off getting one :/

At least now I have more time to find some of those "friend" things. Heard you might need those to enjoy this.

This is getting a bit silly now.

At this rate there'll be no new games out in 2014 at all! lol.
