Respawn appears to have ruled out the possibility of microtransactions making their way into Titanfall, telling VideoGamer.com that the model isn't for them.

"I don't think we've really gotten that far," Respawn community manager Abbie Heppe said, when asked whether the team saw the base game as a platform that will be expanded upon for the foreseeable future, or whether it intends to release ongoing sequels.

"We've been so singularly focussed on creating this game and getting it out. We're a small team and we just go project by project. It's something that we'll have to think about later on. Although for this one, I know we got asked a lot early on, like, will [we] be going near microtransactions, are you going to do that? That's not us.

"This has been such a journey that I think we're just like, 'Okay, get this one out the door and then we'll worry about everything else'."

Titanfall's publisher EA has previously been criticised for shoehorning microtransactions into its titles. The publisher attracted criticism earlier this year after it was discovered that Dead Space 3 players could use real money to purchase in-game resources.

It's also introducing microtransactions into this November's shooter Battlefield 4 through Battlepacks - gold, silver and bronze packs that let players unlock further customisation options and XP boosts for their soldier.

But Heppe maintains that if Respawn were to release add-on content for Titanfall, it wouldn't be delivered via microtransactions.

"I don't know specifically what is in the Battlepacks, sadly," she says, asked if Respawn could adopt a similar model. "It's not out of the question that we would have follow-up content but I don't know that we would do it the same as they [DICE] do it."

Titanfall launches next spring on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC
