Microsoft believes that the Xbox One will have a “very strong, if not the strongest” lineup of games this Christmas, leading the way against rival platform PlayStation 4 “for the second holiday”.

Speaking to GameSpot about Xbox One’s upcoming slate, Microsoft’s chief marketing and strategy officer Yusuf Mehdi explained that the platform holder “really loved our competitive position with the first holiday, which I think most would say we had a stronger games lineup [than the competition].

“I’m really excited about E3,” he added, “cautiously optimistic that we’ll have the value proposition that is also a very strong, if not the strongest, games lineup for the second holiday.”

Microsoft has already announced multiple major Xbox One titles due for release at the end of the year, including Sunset Overdrive, Quantum Break and a new Halo. Forza Horizon 2 is also rumoured to be in development for release this autumn.

Sony, meanwhile, has both The Order: 1886 and DriveClub due for release exclusively on PS4 in the second half of the year. It isn’t yet clear when Uncharted PS4 will hit.

Both publishers could also be planning to announce further additions to their holiday lineups during next month’s E3.
