Warner Bros. Interactive has released a pretty impressive eight-minute gameplay walkthrough of cross-generational action title Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor.

Developed by Monolith using the Nemesis System, the new The Lord of the Rings prequel is shaping up rather nicely, sharing much than a slight resemblance to Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed franchise.

Players will assume the role of Talion, a ranger who loses everything on the night of Sauron's return to Mordor. As Talion's personal vendetta unfolds, players uncover the mystery of the Spirit that compels him.

Check out the gameplay for yourself in the video below.

In my eyes, AC is a series that's in dire need of refreshing, so having a game that use similar ideas and mechanics but from a different studio can only be a good thing. (plus it's got orcs and stuff!!)

Hmm... does look very much like AC. Nothing wrong with that, you can do that, the Problem is just that I'm really tired of AC. Theres a reason I didn't buy AC4, cant play anymore of that.

So it dosn't look good for that Game, being very much like AC is not a good way to get my Money these Days.

The gameplay looks interesting if not blatantly ripped off Assassin's Creed but this doesn't feel like Lord of the Rings at all. They would've been better off with an original world. This feels like very poor and lazy use of the license.

Agreed, part of me is concerned about the amount that has been ripped straight out of other games (those little rope walk things for instance) but it was a tactic that worked very well for Sleeping Dogs, and considering how poor a LOTR game has the potential to be, something that lacks creativity but has high quality is probably the best thing we can hope for.

That looks effing amazing. This has now become my most wanted game.
I see the Assassin's Creed and Arkham influence, which means a potentially great game. An Assassin's Creed game with actual stealth of Arkham? Nice. I would have personally preferred more original animation. What's really got me interested is this nemesis and mind control stuff. I wonder just how much it'll affect gameplay.
Want more info now.
