Double Helix had to bear the brunt of unhappy fighting fans jeering at its upcoming Xbox One fighter Killer Instinct while presenting the game live on stage at this weekend's Evo 2013 tournament.

Taking to the stage to demo the fighter, the two Double Helix developers were booed immediately after mentioning Xbox One and discussing their "great partnership with Microsoft".

After persevering with their introduction, the game was booed again moments later upon the Microsoft Studios and Xbox One logos appearing on stage. Around 100,000 people were thought to have been watching the event live online.

You can watch the entire thing in the video below.

Fans have criticised Microsoft for its approach to Xbox One following the console's announcement in May, forcing the company to backtrack on its plans to implement restrictive DRM into the upcoming next-gen console.

Killer Instinct is expected to launch alongside Xbox One this November.

"Also, Tekken and Soul Calibur games were also considered button-mashy titles at one point"

Yea but the differences between those fighters and KI was defense and the level of execution in Tekken and Soul Calibur was more intense then the inclusion of defensive/safe moves changed that all. A skilled player won't lose to a button masher.

lol i actually quite like Max, he's occasionally annoying but generally he actually brings some form of personality to a hobby that generally doesn't have many interesting people.

I actually used to really like Gootecks and Mike Ross as well, they played off each other really well. It was a shame they went their separate ways.

Also, Tekken and Soul Calibur games were also considered button-mashy titles at one point, but they still get semi-serious inclusions in tournaments. Mortal Kombat is another, injustice definitely brings the old MK engines bang up to date but the older titles were garbage by comparison.

KI doesn't look any less offensive than MvC3. Thats just a particle effect assault on the eyes to watch.

Killer Instinct has never been hailed as an "excellent fighter" by fighting fans it's just a scrubby button masher, BUT it was fun and nothing more. It looks like the most visually offensive game i've seen, it looks nothing like a next gen game and the amount of shadows/lighting in some of the moves was just abysmal.

Another reason they were booing is because of Double Helix, they haven't made one good game.

Also Maximilian......i can't stand that prick.

I think Endless is more on the right track.

These are ultra hard-core tournament fighter fans.
Right from the off set, Killer Instinct isn't really the right game for that crowd.

Add on top of that, the way this particularly version is being distributed AND that it's being developed by Double Helix who do no have anything close to a good reputation to begin with... and the way it was presented at E3.

It's one of those things that happens.

Mind you, this is just a blurry crowd video. Doesn't exactly gave us a sense of scale on the heckle.

Main reason the FGC would be booing is simply because A) they are the ficklest moany-est buggers on the planet and b) (more likely) because any fighting game that doesn't include everything from the off is considered not tournament worthy. For a tournament organiser to get their systems setup for all fighters and such costs a fortune if they have to buy individual characters etc.

That's a shame they booed. Killer Instinct itself is looking pretty good, it's just the games connections with Microsoft that are really making people unhappy.
