Forza Motorsport 5 will not only run at 60 frames per second, but will do so whilst displaying in 1080p, Turn 10's content director John Wendel has told GameSpot.

Asked about the pressures of delivering a launch title for Xbox One, Wendel said:

"I believe we're uniquely positioned to deliver on that challenge. We're a huge epic game that's going to be running at 1080p, 60fps on the next-gen console, so it's an incredible opportunity on one hand, but you have to be incredibly flexible and agile and self-aware on the other hand."

Don't expect this to be the norm for all Xbox One titles – yesterday we reported that Microsoft will not be enforcing minimum performance requirements on titles.

60 fps @ 1080p is incredibly hard to maintain, and I would say almost impossible on current gen hardware.

Bearing in mind that the console supports 4K, 60fps @ 1080 is easily achieveable.

Also the fact that I am a Forza fan is a big plus. The techniques employed in FM4 made the game look stunning at 720, with those techniques brought to a dedicated 1080 platform the results should be a real eye opener.

The next generation will be very interesting indeed. I watch with great interest.

I believe the likes of HD ports did, such as NiGHTS into Dreams on XBLA or the MGS HD Collection and Zone of Enders HD Collection, etc.

Very easy to do with games that have such drastically lower polygon counts and lower resolution textures.

1080p at 60fps will of course be great but we all know what will happen before long.
Developers will start dedicating all the extra grunt towards particle effects, post processing, higher polygon counts, textures etc with the target of 30fps which is generally considered good enough by many devs.
Forza and Call of Duty have lower native resolutions (Call of Duty MW is only 1024x600, and they've actually tended to drop with each new release), but at least they run at 60fps.
Halo 3 was 1152x640 at 30fps.
Reach improved that to 1152x720, still short of the 1280x720 that is True HD, but again, 30fps. In both cases it was to allow for vastly more dynamic lighting.

Bottom line, you can't have your cake and eat it. Attaining 1080p and 60fps will eventually require compromise.
When the PS2 launched, there was a lot of talk that all games would target 60fps but, as ever, that dropped over time.

As for the TV issue, TV's that had a max res of 720p (or rather, a native resolution of 1360x768) were pretty quickly succeeded by 1080p models before it got too much of a foothold. From 28" up, they are usually 1080p from the recognisable brands and have been since about 2008.
But yes, as Lucky was saying you can still play 1080p games on a 720p screen.
They are just downscaled rather than upscaled, which is what is done with most current games.

If anyone is curious, CoD Black Ops had native resolution of 960x544 on PS3 and 1040x608 on the Xbox 360.
Black Ops 2 has dropped the horizontal resolution down but upped the vertical resolution to 880 x 720 on both the Xbox 360 and PS3 with 2x MSAA.
Those are the sacrifices made with each game to maintain 60fps whilst trying to make it look nicer.

While i'll take shiny cars in 1080p gratefully, the main item on my wishlist is for tight controls and good AI.

Since Forza 4 had this I'm assuming the new one will.

This game and all games will still be playable on 720p and 1080i TVs. They're just saying that this game in particular will run naively at 1920 x 1080p.

@Batmamerc Forza 3 & 4 were both running at 60fps but Forza 3 ran at 720p and Forza 4 at I believe 640p (like Halo: REACH). Remember Xbox 360 was good but not great. I don't think any games ran at true 1080p 60fps.... could be wrong through.

What about all those people with 720p and 1080i TVs? I agree to a certain extent, it would be an incentive to push sales of TVs if new devices required the higher resolution. In fact, I wouldn't have bothered upgrading to HD/full HD as early as I did if I didn't have a console.

I dont think blu-ray is a big enough push for people to upgrade their TV, but a new games console? I think thats a bigger pull imo.

Wasn't Forza 4 60fps @ 1080p?! If all Xbox One developers aren't going to make there titles 60fps and full HD is there really any point in a new console that has better graphics capabilities and more CPU power, they may as well stick to low def jittery games on the 360 then I wouldn't have to fork out on a new console, I want better not the same or less if I'm going to upgrade, Microsoft and Sony should enforce this in my opinion.
