Native resolution is "the only [visual] difference" between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Call of Duty: Ghosts, Infinity Ward has claimed.

"Yep, it's the only difference," executive producer Mark Rubin told Metro when quizzed over whether resolution was the only thing separating the two versions. "The TVs are different on some of them, but… they both have their different rendering engines but they're as close as possible.

"It really comes down to resolution. Xbox is upscaled 720, it's outputting at 1080p but it's upscaled from 720. Whereas PlayStation 4 is native 1080p. So that's really the only graphical difference. But it is enough. Some people here are saying they don't really notice a difference..."

It was revealed last week that the Xbox One version of Call of Duty: Ghosts would render natively at 720p with the PS4 version rendering at 1080p.

However, Joystiq reported yesterday that the PS4 version "has noticeable technical issues", claiming that the frame rate "sometimes slowing to a crawl, particularly during set-piece moments with multiple effects.

"One specific moment I was able to replicate multiple times on PS4 was a campaign scene featuring explosions and smoke that ran smoothly on Xbox 360 and PS3 but chugged on Sony's next-gen platform," the site said. "These frame rate hitches happen throughout the campaign on PlayStation 4 and, in a series known for its Hollywood-inspired bombast, it detracted from the experience."

Footage of the Xbox One version also appeared to highlight frame drops, although it isn't clear whether the drops are due to a processing error of the footage itself or indicative of the final product.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launched yesterday on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PC and Wii U, and launches on Xbox One on November 15.

Haha this has nothing to do with the playstation 4 the game sucks on both consoles and even more so on the PC so you can't blame it on the playstation 4 hardware As a PC gamer myself I'm getting a console for one reason the games that just don't come to the PC and Im going for the ps4 , and to any one planning on buying xbox one should think twice it can't even run a game like cod at 1080p.

All this really shows is what I've known for years is that COD and hasn't been any good since the pc original , now the game is just designed for dumb ass fanboys to buy what is essentially the same game every year to make the highest profits with smallest amount of effort

Well that firmly flies in the face of their reason for reducing the resolution on Xone because of unacceptable frame-rate/performance at 1080p.

Well that ain't good. Don't want 1080p if it comes at the expense of performance, maybe the xbox one will be the better version after all?

Wait... the PS4 can chug? We still get chugging with next gen? Jaggies used to be my immersive-breaking bugbear and I'm glad they're no longer really a problem, but now I've got chugging on my list as the next one for the industry to tackle. Get to it!
