Call of Duty: Ghosts will render at 720p on Xbox One and at native 1080p on PlayStation 4, Infinity Ward has confirmed.

Executive producer Mark Rubin confirmed the rendering resolutions in an update on Twitter this evening, stating:

"Hey, been on the road last couple weeks so haven’t had a chance to update, but wanted to confirm that for Xbox One we’re 1080p upscaled from 720p. And, we’re native 1080p on PS4. We optimized each console to hit 60 FPS and the game looks great on both.

"Still on the road, but glad to see the great reception to Extinction. Can’t wait for next week's launch."

Confirmation of the performance difference follows this week's news that Battlefield 4 will also render at a higher resolution on PS4 than Xbox One.

Though DICE has yet to formally confirm Battlefield 4's native output on next-gen consoles, the title is thought to render at 720p on Xbox One and between 900p and 1080p on PS4.

Call of Duty: Ghosts launches on all major platforms - including PlayStation 4 and Xbox One - next Tuesday, November 5.

Performance will be fine across all platforms - the publishers won't allow anything less.

Those who are concerned about having extra textures and whatnot would be buying the PC versions I'm sure, but other "serious" COD players will be buying the game on the platform with the biggest install base, the platform where their friends are, or the platform with the best network infrastructure.

I really don't think this would affect sales at all.

I have to wonder how much of a difference cloud offloading would make to these games, if it was used.

Anyways mark my words in 5 years time everyone will be streaming their games on their 7" smartphones. While the richer folks will be running games on their 12" 4K tablets. The hipsters, btw, will also be running games in 720p, on their wearable devices, probably glasses that converts into a watch, or a watch that converts into a vibrating spork, or something.

It's early in this generation. I'm pretty sure we'll see both consoles putting out multiplatform games in 1080p parity in about 1 to 2 year time.

Then in about 5-6 years time we'll see developers scale down to 720p again in order to allow devs to get the most power out of the consoles, by using the power need to keep up the 1080p and put it into visual effects. Like they did this gen. Or maybe they'll stick with 1080p, who knows? Judging stuff by launch line ups is a terrible idea (looks at perfect dark zero)

All we know for sure is that the PS4 is technically more powerful. So whilst the gaps between the two consoles specification may not be large enough for one console to have largely better looking games, it may allow for smaller things to become easier. Different resolution and the odd extra visual effect. Nothing important or noticeable, until someone writes it down on a piece of paper and explains the differences.

These news articles are in the end being super analytical about stuff that may or may not matter in the end, which is a thing at the present. However we have remember these initial impressions may not mean much in 1-3 years time.

Pretty sure it's the latter. 3rd parties always take a while to get the most from the hardware. Perhaps EA and Activision had more help from Sony or just got started on PS4 dev kits earlier?

i wonder if this I just teething with developers getting used to the new hardware and will change. I have and X1 on preorder im not going to cancel it I had a ps3 & 360 , sold the PS3 didn't like it. still have a 360,vita a 3DS.But this makes me worry a little if the X1 is powerful enough.

It makes you wonder how Forza 5 has hit the 1080p visuals, and whether there are some sneaky tricks or that simply Turn 10 has had more time with the hardware. Only time will tell.

Wonder what Dead Rising and Titan Fall will run at as they have had support from MS.

Considering these Consoles should last many Years, its not good. The Industrie is focused on PS and Xbox, because thats where the Money lies, so there Hardware is the most Important.

How many Times did I hear Developers crying because the old Consoles hold them Back? And these consoles where more up do date when they came out then these two new ones (Yes, both).
I just wonder what all that will mean in 4-5 Years. I'm happy as long as I get great and fun Games, but when Developers start Bitching around earlier its not good.

I don't know, I going a bit too much in to the Future now, lets talk about that again in 5 Years.

Agreed. It is sightly worrying though, as this looks like it could become a standard solution for third party games to get around the discrepancy in performance. But then we've had a similar sitch this gen, and the difference in visuals ended up being minimal for the most part in the end.

At least wait for the video and tests to come through. Also, maybe it's early days, seems a bit strange considering the similarities in hardware between the two.

Well, it's not just COD players, as an RPG player it'll affect me if a big multiplatform comes out later that does the same thing, like Destiny for example.

Bit of a blow to Microsoft for this news to come out now, more decision-making ammo for me when I decide which console to settle down with sometime next year.
