Wolfenstein: The New Order will render at native 1080p and 60fps on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, Bethesda has confirmed to GameSpot.

Confirmation follows earlier reports that the game would render at 1080p on both platforms. However, it wasn't previously known if the game would output natively at 1080p or be upscaled from a lower resolution.

Resolutions for the current-gen versions have yet to be confirmed.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is due to launch on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4 and PC on May 23. Pre-order the game and you'll be given access to a multiplayer beta for an upcoming Doom game.

Or maybe not just a little confused:

Mastered in 4K blu rays are out and available and have been for a few months.
Yes these are not all singing all dancing 4k native discs but are pretty damn close and offer greater picture quality than standard bluray.

There are no 4K releases so watching Captain Phillips on "captain Phillips on blu ray the other day in glorious 4K blu ray" means you're watching an upscale. It's like watching a DVD on a 1080p tv and saying "what's the difference?", there isn't one because it's not native 1080p content.

Right now the only way to watch 4K content is via a RedRay or a PC (via DisplayPort for proper 60hz support as HDMI 1.4 is only 30hz) and believe you me there is a major difference. Native 4K content actually pulls off the "Is it a window or is it a TV?" effect. My big worry right now is that we're only going to get streaming 4K content which means the bit rate will be crap blunting the benefits. For reference a 50GB Blu-Ray would hold about 10 minutes of RedRay content (8:1 compressed).

You might not care, but there are plenty of people who do. And which ever way you look at it, this is big news for Microsoft/Xbox one!

Please stop with the resolution thing,I couldn't care less if every game was released at 900p,no one complains sky is 1080i so you have to watch it at 720 p which is superior, watched captain Phillips on blu ray the other day in glorious 4K still looks the bloody same as any new blu ray,it's time to move on and embrace 900p.
