Ubisoft has acknowledged that hundreds of email addresses were accidentally leaked in a promotional email sent to Watch Dogs fans last week - but hasn't apologised for the blunder.
Instead, the publisher has removed everyone's email addresses from their marketing database as a "precaution".
In an email sent out to account holders last night, Ubisoft said:
"Ubisoft takes privacy matters seriously. Recently we discovered some users' email addresses were gathered without following proper privacy guidelines and procedures. As a precaution, we are removing your email from our marketing database.
"If you'd like to continue to receive updates and news on Watchdogs, update your Uplay account by clicking here.
Ubisoft's lack of apology may leave a sour taste with some users affected by the gaffe.
The blunder led to scores of unsolicited emails hitting fans' inboxes in the days that followed.
Users with email addresses starting with a number or the first few letters of the alphabet are said to have been affected.
