Mark Rein says "it goes without saying" that more development time equals more optimisation.

UT3 on Xbox 360 will have better graphics than on PS3, Epic chief Mark Rein has hinted.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com at the game's official unveiling in Las Vegas this week, Rein said that because Epic has spent more time on the 360 version compared with the PS3 version of the game it had benefited from more optimisation, and said that gamers "can draw your own conclusions from that".

The 360 version of UT3 features two-player split-screen support across all modes except online ranked, to prevent cheating. It also contains three brand new maps, two re-imagined maps and two new characters, as well as all the DLC from the PS3 and PC versions.

When asked what version of UT3 has the better graphics, Rein replied: "You'll have to judge that for yourself. I think it goes without saying that the more time you spend on a product the more optimisation you get, and you can draw your own conclusions from that. But this is a great version of the game. And now we have split screen as well. A lot of optimisation was necessary for this version to get decent performance with split screen. That was no easy task."

He added: "We heard from the PS3 guys they really wanted split-screen. Maybe if we'd spent eight more months on the game like we have here. But a lot of work has gone into making this game fast and smooth enough to be able to do split screen and still maintain a high frame rate. This is a very good version of the game. I don't think anyone's going to feel that this is anything but our best. I mean anything but our best effort. Just like all the other versions we've really put in a lot of effort in this version."

Check back with VideoGamer.com next week for our hands-on preview of UT3 on Xbox 360. Check out the first footage of the Xbox 360 version of UT3 over on the VideoGamer.com video player.

Unreal Tournament 3 is due out for Xbox 360 in Summer 2008. The PC and PS3 versions are out now.

Damn, I really wanted this game and was annoyed when it was delayed on the 360. Now I am selling my 360 and won't be able to get the good version, cause I am getting a PS3. Oh well, LittleBigPlanet more ethan makes up for it,

I don't think there will be too much of a difference. The game looked pretty good on my Playstation 3. The only problem I had with the game was that nobody seemed to be talking on the headset. That annoyed me because I felt like I was playing by myself. I thought it was a "push to talk" setup, so I tried all the buttons, but nothing worked. Nobody ever answered me.

Anyways, as for the Xbox 360 version looking better... it probably will. I mean, they have had more time to get it ready, it should look better.

i hafto agree with razor . especially on the subject of ut3 , the unreal tournament games have always been popular on the pc platform . just look at ut2004 . it is still played by many people even though ut3 is out on pc now. even though it is alot cheaper to play modern games on a 360 or ps3 . pc gaming will always be one of my favorites

Very true! PC's are getting pricy to keep up with great gfx, but looking at surveys on steam most pc gamers out there have upgraded to keep up with the market. To me a PC is tfun to tweak and push limits, and consoles are for easy access to my heart ;)

On the note of ut3 of course its looks better with more time to optimize. I don't see how in any way that can be criticism of the ps3?

As far as superior version depends what you want pc is the daddy. If you want splitscreen then 360, if you want mods on console then ps3. Its all about which best fits you.

They must just have put up old footage on the tv, yesterday then. The clip I saw of the 360 version was dropping frames all over the place - but then again, what would you expect the Epic marketing guy to say. :p

While it is safe to say pc gaming is overall better in terms of graphical capabilities it is out of reach when it comes down to afford ability, simply building or buying a rig to handle these games today cost over the price of any console on the market, a decent gaming rig I built was a quad core phenom processor, 2 gigs ddr2 800mghz ram, 640 mg 8800 gts sli capable mother board, 700 watt psu, nice case and plenty of fans ran me to a little over $1,000 my power supply was $130, video card only one at that was nearly $300 mother board $130, Amd phenom cpu was a little over $200 it is costly to game on pc, then mind you Vista Premium being nearly $200 bucks, then in a year or so maybe two pc games will require more video ram meaning dishing out money on another card for sli, luckily it will be cheaper but still, then add needing patches, drivers tweaking its just a hassle and most people don't want to go through so much just to game.

Consoles are simple pick up and play, average life span 4-6 years with no need for hard ware upgrading, even I prefer my Xbox 360 and Ps3 over my pc, also games come to the console first lots of times with the exception for very hard ware intensive games like crysis being exclusive to the pc, but we all remember F.E.A.R on the pc first then on the xbox 360.

GTA 4 will be on the 360 and ps3 in one week still no word on a pc version, what 10 months from now maybe, but me I'm getting it on my 360 same goes for Gears 2 even though pc version will come out.

I think the point is being missed here. PC will be the better choice for this type of game it's a given. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work this out! What the point is about that the supposed dominating console "PS3" with its "BlueRay" storage was not needed to make the superior game on the 360. I had no doubt that all content would be fitted on the DVD it already had been done on the PC.

Im surprised Netmind hsnt bumped the PC version yet lol! I agree pc version ll the way! Easy controls and smooth gameplay. Loading times aint bad either! Some games are totally better on a PC.

Indeed, I don't like updating my computer every time i want to a kickass game and patches are a huge cost of time.

Agreed to PC Gaming, it will always be better. But consoles are getting powerful as a PC, and more afford-able of course.

PC is the best version hands down, 360 users can think they are better but the harcore action all plays out on your desktop.
