Tom Orry, Editor - Sleeping Dogs, Xbox 360

Right, so Sleeping Dogs is a game that is so inconsistent you could have a brilliant time one evening, but then play through an absolutely terrible mission the next night. I've just played through one of the worst missions in the game, involving showing some important American guy a good time in the city. This meant I had to find women for him to hang out with (which in itself is a bit weird), and then sing karaoke in a private booth. It wasn't fun.

That is Sleeping Dogs' problem. One moment you're kicking arse with your martial arts or slow-mo diving and headshotting enemies, the next you're ferrying people around the city. It's especially grating this late on in the story, at a point which the whole thing should be reaching a dramatic climax.

David Scammell, Staff Writer - Borderlands 2, Xbox 360

Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to tell you what I think of Borderlands 2 yet. But, thanks to the (frankly stupid) nature of print and online embargoes, here are somebody else's thoughts <cough>Game Informer<cough> that may - or may not - accurately reflect my opinion about what I've played so far:

"Instead of taking the easy route, the studio has taken everything that impressed in the original and greatly enhanced it. From major bullet points like the story to smaller details like the UI and inventory system, Borderlands 2 surpassed my expectations and stands as a prime example of how to knock a sequel out of the park...

"With an entertaining antagonist, some surprising twists, and cutscenes you actually want to watch, the story is one of the many significant steps up from its predecessor."

So, Borderlands 2. If you haven't pre-ordered it yet, you should (probably) think about doing so. Maybe. And if anyone asks why, you didn't hear it from me.

Matthew Nellis, Video Producer - League of Legends, PC

Aside from a brief foray in to Firaxis' XCOM: Enemy Unknown, I'd be lying if I were to say I'd been spending time with anything other than League of Legends, the most played PC game in the world.

Riot has released a new tier and reward structure for their ranked system, and this has made me more determined than ever to get myself to a respectable Elo.

Elo is the rating system Riot uses to measure the skill level of each player in ranked play, and with this comes a term known as 'Elo Hell'. You see, a professional League of Legends player will have an Elo of 2000+. Mine currently fluctuates anywhere between 950 - 1200. This is Elo hell. This is a special place where you often wonder how some of your team-mates managed to navigate past the login screen, such is the level of their skill in the game. A place where people think it's a good idea to try a champion they've never EVER played before, and then wonder why they play terribly. A place where team-mates are never in the wrong, and any misfortune that may happen upon them is entirely my fault. A place where... I could go on all day, I really could.

But at the end of the day, I'm in this Elo range because I deserve to be. Part of the reason is from playing ranked games way before I was actually ready to do so. This was roughly 6 months ago, and since then I've learned so much from watching tournaments and pro streams that it feels like a completely different game now. My re-emergence in to the ranked queue began last week, and so far has been very hit or miss. But then nothing ever worth having came easy, right?

Late to the party here.

Sleeping Dogs while is still being played is a bit more on the side lines. Battlefield 3: Armo(u)red Kill has been taking a lot of my time. The AC-130 rocks, the mobile artillery rocks, the Tank destroyers rock, The new maps in all modes rocks! Very happy with this DLC

Some ballad of gay Tony which I never really got into when I tried to play before but it has been on steam list for ages unplayed so thought I would have a go.

Fear 3 I have tried a number of times to play some co op or mulitplayer but unfortunately it looks like this died on its ass as its impossible to get a game unless you know someone with it.

I got starhawk finally haven't played it tho first time the updates on ps3 have annoyed so much new patch for starhawk then some other update then ps3 update.

Possibly a bit more played but can't think of anything.

I reach 100% complete on Sleeping Dogs, very enjoyable game and I'm going to leave it there. The platinum trophy is perfectly plausible but a lot of grinding involved and I'll just end up sick of the sight of the game doing that.

Made what I thought was a brief start on Machinarium but turns out I'm almost half way through. Charming little game.

Cheers for that, entered. There are more English males than there are males and females from the rest of the UK combined, even if we include the Republic of Ireland. Which we shouldn't, being as it is not part of the UK! I just got partnered against someone called Dunc, but within 20 seconds of the first race there was a connection error. Don't know if it was me or him, but I'll be sure to play plenty over the next few days. Hope to see you on there, MJ.

Still playing F1 2011 although the multiplayer can be very frustrating when other players constantly cheat and essentially try to ruin the race for everyone else. There are also a few things I hope codemasters fix in 2012. One thing I know is fixed from the demo is illegal overtake penalties which are no longer instant (you get 5 secs to hand the position back) the other thing I hope is rejigged is the way you get penalties online, for instance; if you are ahead of someone coming up to a corner and break/turn to take it you will get a penalty for causing a collision if the person behind you tries to hit you but only clips you and spins out, hopefully this is no longer the case. These issues with F1 2011 are only really due to spending a lot of time with the game though and are essentially nit-picking, my only worry for F1 2012 is that I wont have enough time to play it seeming I'm getting Borderlands 2 on the same day.

Which Mario Kart 7 tournament would that be?

I literally just finished To The Moon, a heavily story based adventure that isn't a whole lot of game, but is far and away the most memorable thing I have played in 2012. Truly beautiful, with none of the mind-numbing tedium that Dear Esther was overly full of. I place it up there with Braid and Ico for the effeect it has had on me, the kind of game that I want to shake people into playing!

The rest has been Guild Wars 2. My favourite MMO ever.

Been playing the odd bit of Reccetear and Portal this week. Also started practising for the Mario kart 7 tournament. I doubt I'll win though since I have played in ages (at least a month) because of college work.

Also can't wait for Torchlight 2 this Thursday! You know it's close when steam asks you to pre download and install before release!

Sleeping Dogs has been taking up all my time at the moment. Actually enjoying the driving sections now, and the takedowns are getting funnier as I get deeper in.

Got 3 chums to play Borderlands 2 with so need to get done before that too. Excited!

Spent most of the week downloading Guild Wars 2. Spent all of yesterday playing it :)

First Impressions? I LOVE IT. The random events that appear are much better than running up to someone with an explanation point over there heads and getting a shopping list of crap to collect.

The soundtrack to the game is lovely and so are the graphics. But its the attention to detail in the character creation process that really stands out. You can just about create whatever you want with what they give you instead of the 7-8 face choices in games like SWTOR. I'll post pictures of my characters soon in the Guild Wars 2 thread. :)

Speaking of SWTOR I've not been on it much this week. Only doing a few daily missions as my Assassin to get cash for the future 1.4 update. Probably won't play SWTOR until 1.4 gets released into the wild (Not Public Test Server)

And I've been finishing off NSMB2. Collected all the star coins in Worlds 1-4 and I'm working on 5 now.

Roll on Friday and Borderlands 2! Bought it on Steam and pre-ordered the 360 version from Game. Why am I getting it on Steam you ask? Well check out THIS video: So Pwetty

Woah longest post I've made in a while :P

I actually played something else other than Guild Wars 2 this week! But then when you get a freebie copy of an XBLA game as a Raptr reward you tend to try it out. So Joe Danger 2: The Movie lasted 5 minutes then it was back to Guild Wars 2 again, which has now become the game which all others are compared to.

It's here that I get side-tracked a little. Borderlands has one of the greatest loot systems. Ever. You kill something and lots of loot explodes in all directions practically every time. That's the appeal. Shinies all over the floor tapping straight into your 'must mouse over it all to see what I got' feral instincts. Was it Diablo that first mastered this game mechanic? Regardless, a few games have tried it since but I have to think back a decade to Legend of Mir to find an MMO not closely related to Diablo that got close to emulating this system.

Anyhow, that's the only thing really missing from Guild Wars 2, in which there's no loot on the floor, you just loot from dead bodies and chests.

It's also the reason Borderlands 2 will sell itself so it strikes me as really strange that Gearbox have embargoes on reviewers. But if you want another reason to get off the fence about Borderlands 2, here's what Adam Sessler tweeted recently:

"Finding it deeply ironic to think about how much I'll miss playing Borderlands 2 as I depart for the Borderlands 2 launch event."

I'm sure I'll feel the same way. I feel that way right now talking about Guild Wars 2 when I could be playing it.
