Tom Orry, Editor - Naughty Bear, Xbox 360 and PS3
It takes a lot to actually make me angry. I can usually put up with a lot and just get on with things, but Naughty Bear, with its utterly terrible camera and frame rate, made me want to do bad things to whoever allowed this onto store shelves. It's so poorly made, so lacking in even the base level of quality control, that it ranks as the worst game I've played this generation. Even if the box art looks interesting as you're browsing the latest releases in your local shop, don't take the risk. Avoid at all costs.
Jamin Smith, Staff Writer - Heavy Rain, PS3
Crack open the champagne! I've finally completed Heavy Rain! I'm now part of that exclusive club of people who know who the Origami Killer is. Did I see it coming? Not even slightly, and the build up to his/her unveiling was handled with the care and attention to detail that no video game's narrative has been treated to before. The convergence of the four main characters' stories created such a fantastic sense of tension, and I was genuinely blown away by the game's tear-inducing ending. Admittedly this emotion was derived from the fact that I fumbled a QTE near the end, and one of my characters subsequently met a grizzly death; but I wouldn't change it for the world. I won't say any more for fear of spoilers, but if you happen to fall into that unfortunate group of people who haven't played the game yet, you owe it to yourself (and others) to check it out.
Martin Gaston, Staff Writer - Demon's Souls, PS3
It actually feels more like Demon's Souls has been playing me, as I've had very little else on my mind over the last week. I'm lucky I'm single at the moment, because if I had a girlfriend she'd definitely dump me for the amount of time I've spent obsessing over the perfect attack strategy. The game manages to make me feel both powerful and pathetic, often at the same time: I generally consider myself to be a fairly competent gamer, but Demon's Souls keeps thrashing me to the point that it's getting embarrassing. My worst death so far has been in a level where, after spending half an hour killing everything in the stage, I promptly proceeded to fall down a giant, gaping hole. Smooth.
