The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct will launch on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 PC (digital) and Wii U on March 29, 2013, Activision has announced.
The survival-FPS, which is being made by Ghostbusters: The Video Game developer Terminal Reality, tells a prequel story to AMC's hit TV show, following characters Merle and Daryl Dixon during events set early in the first season.
"Our games takes cues off of the show itself," Terminal Reality's Glenn Gamble told VideoGamer.com. "When we first started on the game, we got AMC's bible, all the crazy things that they do in the show, and that's pretty much what we matched the game on.
"We're trying to be as close and as faithful to the show as possible."
Naturally, the Wii U version features GamePad-exclusive features, including the ability to manage your inventory through the GamePad screen.
"[Inventory management is] super-streamlined on the Wii U pad," Gamble explains. "Literally as you're playing you can be tapping items, dropping them, throwing them, equipping them, stuff like that. So the controls are just a lot more streamlined [on Wii U], but overall all three [versions] are pretty much the same."
The developer doesn't appear to have encountered many technical challenges when porting the Infernal Engine over to the console, either.
"I know [Wii U] has its own hurdles and the different things that they have to do to get it to work there, but near as I can tell, it looks like it's running fine," he continued. "I've been helping with the touch UI, setting up the actual UI interface and everything, so I've gotten to mess with that and as near as I can tell they're identical across the board."
The first footage of The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct surfaced over the Christmas period, but things didn't appear to go as smoothly as the developer would have liked...
