Thief 4 must equal or surpass the quality of Deus Ex: Human Revolution if Eidos Montreal is to cement its reputation, the studio's boss has said.

"The success of Deus Ex put two things in perspective for us," said general manager Stephane D'Astous, speaking to OXM.

"Our second game needs to be as good or better than Deus Ex, and it gave a lot of credibility to the studio. Putting a successful game under your belt brings more confidence and credibility, and less red tape. We don't want to be seen as a one trick pony."

And while Thief 4's gameplay will be notably different to Human Revolution, D'Astous believes there will be a degree of overlap in terms of the freedom afforded to players:

"In Deus Ex, we really wanted to give different options in how to play, and we will want to bring a certain level of that to Thief," he said.

"I think if people spend $60 on a game, they want more than corridor shoot shoot, corridor shoot shot. People are asking for a little more, so give them the choice of how they want to play." Analysis

Hello! This is the first news story I've written in the shiny new VideoGamer office. You may have noticed that the words above are slightly more lively and energetic than those found in our old stories; that's because we're in a bigger room now, so we're able to use free range letters.

We believe that vowels and consonants should be given the freedom to roam and live happy lives, right up until the moment we slaughter them and paste them into our CMS. Hopefully you'll be able to immediately taste the difference in our delicious new editorial.
