VideoGamer.com Plays November 20, 2011
The game's we've been playing this week.
Tom Orry, Editor - Batman: Arkham City, Xbox 360, PS3
This game is getting really good now, with the sequence I've just played being the definite highlight so far. I'm playing Arkham City in 30-40 minute chunks and I can't remember a night where I haven't been involved in something great, be it a cool boss battle, massive fight or neat little moment where things just clicked. I have no doubt that some of the great stuff goes over my head seeing as I'm not really much of a Batman fan, but there's still plenty of good stuff for comic-book avoiders like me to enjoy. If, like me, you found the opening a little hard to get into, stick with it; the latter stages are well worth persevering for.
Neon Kelly, Deputy Editor - Professor Layton and the Last Spectre, DS
Perhaps I'm just getting old and cynical (read: more cynical), but it seems as if Professor Layton's charm is losing some of its potency. There's still plenty to like about this, his fourth outing on the DS, but the game certainly feels a bit too similar to what we've had before. It still looks and sounds very nice indeed, but the actual puzzles feel largely identical to the ones we've had in the last three games. I've no doubt it'll still notch up decent sales, and if you're a fan of the Professor and Luke you'll probably still find a lot to enjoy. But for Level 5, the real puzzle is how to give this series a new twist. The next game - the 3DS-based Mask of Miracle - is already out in Japan, so come 2012 we'll know what solution they've found.
Martin Gaston, Previews Editor - Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Xbox 360
I've had a cold for most of this week, so I've been working even less than Call of Duty Elite. I'll be here all week. Still, if you want to know the raw stats: I'm level 36, have a K/D ratio of 1.14 and a 47 per cent win percentage. According to Elite I'll Prestige in two weeks, but I'll be surprised if it happens that quickly.
The real highlight for me, though, has been Spec Ops mode. With the help of a friend I've boshed out about half of these on Veteran now, and honestly some have been absolutely crushing. In a good way: I am fuelled by defeat. The one where you raid the Russian submarine must have taken us about an hour. It was both brilliant and awful.
Emily Gera, Staff Writer – Skyrim, Xbox 360, PS3, and PC
At level 23 and forty hours in I still find the best way to play Skyrim is to wander in a general direction and hope at some point you'll run into something. Not even necessarily dragons so much as NPCs randomly peppered around to give the game that "lived-in quality", which really does make me wonder whether the game could work within an MMO format. As much as I appreciate the "you're the one true hero" slant of Skyrim, somehow I don't think I'd particularly mind sharing the space with countless others. Would it be so different to swap out Lydia for a legitimate, human co-op partner? I'm not so sure.

also explained roughly what Skyrim is about to James. He replied with "I know it's you christmas present but please please can I play it too? It sounds awesome" Of course I'll let him play, I'm hoping he gets addicted to it :D

Phenomenal game.

The real world no longer holds any meaning for me. All I care about - all I can think about - is the world of Olbas, the Dark Elf. Finished the Thieves Guild questline last night, and about to crack on with Dark Brotherhood tonight.
40-odd hours in now and easily my GOTY. Best game I've played in the last few years, in fact.

Saints Row III - Not my usual sort of game, but very glad I was convinced to check it out. Even better - I got the Genki Preorder pack, which is just so damned funny. The city does seem rather small, without much variety, but rumour has it that consumables/more shops and areas may be opened u through future DLC... either way, it does seem fun, which is the main thing.
Guitar Hero: Greatest Hits - Saw it going cheap in Sainsburys, and had a desire to play Freebird again, so... should never have gotten rid of it the first time. Although seen as a blatant re-hash of previous games, the addition of lyrics/drums and complete re-working of every song does deserve some credit (even if, in my opinion, they did muck up that iconic aforementioned song).

Like CharleSkecth said.. Keep shooting. Empty your clips on them ;)
I borrowed and finished Uncharted 3 this weekend. Its a bit shorter than two but equally as good. There was a sequence of chapters that have blown me away. I felt my gaming zen for a couple of hours and it was incredible. I would say that the game definitely has high and low points. I found the lows quite boring and nearly didn't bother going back.. But, when I got to the highs the game was exhilarating!
@CharleSkecth
Ratchet & Clank Future Crack in Time is wonderful.. Play it! :)
Other than Uncharted 3, I have been thrashing Hot Pursuit because I finally 'upgraded' from the 60gb PS3 to a slim and have a clean HDD. Time to go through a lot of my older games again and save some money on new releases. Also going through Vanquish again. LOVE IT!

And heh, Skyrim. Ironically I finally just gotten round to spending time on Oblivion sometime last month or two. Around 90 hours in and still haven't gotten very far, closed only like 1 oblivion gate in thus far. Heh. Wonder when I'd get around to Skyrim.
Anyways @CheekyLee an Elder Scrolls MMO or even a multiplayer patch might happen, but not while Bethestha can still make money from a single player campaign and DLCs I say. Who knows though, there is high demand for it by the community it sounds like, so they might be working on it as we speak. I can't imagine them making a patching or modding the current game though, not unless they set it in a separate self contained area or perhaps some kinda alternate game mode. There is just too much to worry about. Exploits, server issues, network performance, and issues with the world in general... For example you might end up with other players coming in and killing your NPCs, stealing the unique and question items and gold and such, and then completely breaking your game when they leave.
More likely I'd say perhaps by the next game Bethestha will have some kinda online subscription service network thingie set up, and there will be online features then. Time will tell I guess.
Btw I'm playing FEAR3 atm, as well as the odd hours of a random few older PC titles. I actually got Batman: AC and Uncharted 3 sitting on my shelf atm, and I actually wanna play those, but the Sony 3D monitor I've pre-ordered have been delayed in NZ once again (till apparently end of March next year), and I'm kinda holding out to play those in 3D. Debating whether I should cancel my pre-order for the 3D display actually. It WOULD be nice to have a HD 3D display, and the TV I'm playing games on IS kinda dying with a few lines of dead pixels running down one side... but the display is kinda expensive... blah, all good I'm either gonna win lotto soon, or the worlds gonna end in 2012 (it had better).

As for what I've been playing, I just recently got myself a PS3, so Uncharted 1/2, and Ratchet & Clank: ToD have had my attention this week. Yeah, I'm starting with the classics, and I'm loving every single one of them.
Shame I'm putting aside my PS3 so soon with the arrival of SKYWARD SWORD, but it'll be worth it, and I'll still go HD for some random Uncharted 3 bits.

Managed to have one hour on MW3 (first time I've played it). Pretty fun game, even if it isn't very original.
