In what is sure to be the first of many items made available for Oblivion, an impressive looking armour set for your horse is now available on Xbox Live Marketplace. If you fancy some extra protection for your horse, as well as looking pretty cool, it can be yours for 200 Microsoft points (a shade under £2).

Reaction to the first available micro-transaction in Oblivion has been mixed, with some gamers lapping it up, eagerly waiting for more items to spend money on, while others appear concerned over the cost of future items.

The horse armour is currently only available for the Xbox 360 version of Oblivion.

Yep. I can't stand the points thing and to be honest it's probably the main reason why I'm yet to buy anything on Marketplace. Why the cash can't just be taken out of my account like my Xbox Live subscription is, I don't know.

These micro transactions are certainly an area of concern, but unless they really change the game, I don't think it's a huge problem. I doubt anyone's experience of Oblivion is going to be changed dramatically without this armour and if it means the devs get a nice bit of extra cash to develop the sequel, I'm all for it. Not that I'll be buying it of course. Damn those Microsoft points!

I'm with you on that. This is the sort of thing is not what Marketplace should be used for. It's all rather predictable though isn't it? Give companies a new arena to sell things in and they will use it, rightly or wrongly. I still don't understand why they use a points system rather than actualy money. Perhaps to make seem like less of a rip?

If this kind of stuff is part of the game it should be included in the license we already paid...
