The Darkness to be published by 2K Games

2K Games has announced that it will publish and distribute The Darkness, a supernatural horror based on the best-selling comic book series, on next generation console systems.

The Darkness, once a Majesco owned title, is in development at renowned Swedish developer Starbreeze Studios and will utilize an in-house next-gen game engine. The game is said to be a first-person shooter, with a blend of modern crime drama and supernatural horror.

"The Darkness videogame is a dynamic first-person shooter that will allow players to call upon the forces of the evil underworld as they fight in gritty, urban environments armed with an arsenal of guns, demonic creatures and supernatural powers." said Christoph Hartmann, Managing Director of 2K Games. "The dark and dynamic comic book storyline that fans love will translate well into first-person action."

In The Darkness, the player will take the role of mafia hitman Jackie Estacado, whom on the night of this 21st birthday is possessed by an ancient demonic entity called The Darkness, empowering him with all manner of special abilities. The Darkness is currently slated for release late this year.
