Speaking at its Comic-Con panel last week, Top Cow announced that a sequel to The Darkness video game is in development.

The first game was released by 2K Games and developed by Starbreeze, and despite a few problems delivered an impressive action experience with top notch production. The game saw players take on the role of New York hitman Jackie Estacado who could utilise the powers of The Darkness to rip apart enemies and perform all manner of other grisly acts.

The sequel won't be developed by Starbreese, though, with the studio boss Johan Kristiansson telling VG247 that it is instead working on two unannounced titles for EA.

Darkness fans might also be interested to hear that a live action feature film is also on the way, with Top Cow president Matt Hawkins stating that further details will be announced in the next few months.

I've heard that the hell sections aren't very good and let the game down.

I think one of the things that may suprise people with the game is that it's not your standard style FPS. It is very story heavy and there are tasks to do - adventure game style with a lot of dialogue - so I can understand if some people weren't too keen if they didn't expect or even want that part of the game!
It was actually these parts of the game that made it for me.

I couldn't get into the first one. It had some good ideas but found it a little repetative.
Might give the sequel a look though.

A fine game, well worthy of a sequel. And spot on with the voice acting guyderman.

Brought the original a few months ago for £4.99, but still haven't played it.

Should really get to it before the sequel comes out.

Shame it's not Starbreeze - they did an excellent job of the first one - a vastly overlooked game - if anyone hasn't played it yet I really recommend it - Gamestation are selling it for £4.99!
