The Crew isn't coming to PlayStation 3 or Wii U because Ubisoft chose to "focus solely on the platform closest to the new-gen's technical infrastructure" when porting the game to last-gen.

"The Crew is originally built for the new generation of consoles so when we made the decision to port it to the previous generation of consoles, we decided to focus solely on the platform closest to the new-gen's technical infrastructure, which is the Xbox 360," a Ubisoft representative explained to this afternoon.

"We are not currently working on a PS3 or Wii U version, we are rather focused on delivering The Crew for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Xbox360 simultaneously on November 11th."

Ubisoft announced an Xbox 360 version of The Crew this morning, later revealing that the last-gen version would be "the same game" as the PS4 and Xbox One versions, complete with the entirety of the USA to explore.

The Crew launches on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4 and PC on November 11.

I'd go with you on server infrastructure. Given how large a component it is in the game to have to copy with the Wii and PS3s stunted infrastructure for a game that relies on it so heavily would just be a nightmare.

I dont think it has much to do with specific hardware elements. technical infrastructure isn't hardware components, it's servers and networks.

The Xbox 360 is not on any variant or derivative of Windows NT, it is on a custom O/S that implements some of the Windows APIs but it bears no relation to NT which is an exclusively x86 code base (there were MIPs, Alpha and PPC variants for NT4.0 but 5.0 dropped them).

My guess we're talking about two issues the whole Cell/RSX mess and the server infrastructure that comes with XBLive. The first is an expensive nightmare to deal with especially compared to 360 and the latter means the back end infrastructure is more expensive to set up for PS3. One of those they might have bothered with both they've clearly just said 'screw it'.

Bit weird to my mind given the historical performance of both driving franchises and the PS3 in EU compared to the US but clearly the math said no. Or Ubi figures most potential PS3 purchasers are already on PS4.

Fair enough. I mean, it's common knowledge that PS3 is harder to make games for than the 360, not that that is an excuse.

I would much rather Ubi put the resources into making The Crew the best game it can be on PS4/X1 consoles, given the longevity it seems it will have and not have the quality of the title diminished because of porting it to an 8 year old machine.

I'd assume it would be the Windows NT OS, because the Wii U runs on PowerPC as well. But then, I don't know much about game development, there maybe some other link.

Not sure if they are talking about the PowerPC processor or the fact that both Xb1 and 360 run on Windows NT.
