Update: Atari has issued the following statement regarding Eden Games.

"Our earnings statement contained a report about the divestment of Eden Studios. We want to make it clear that the studio has not closed and that we will continue to support the console and PC games of Eden Studios, notably Test Drive Unlimited 2, while this process is underway.

"The divestment is in line with our previously stated strategy of exploiting our popular intellectual property library on mobile devices, where he have seen strong initial success, and via online games and licensing."

Original story: Atari has reported a loss of $4.8 million for its 2012 financial year, and confirmed company-wide restructuring including the complete closure of Test Drive developer Eden Games.

Revenue for the year was only $51.3 million, down from $77.8 million in 2011, but the publisher did at least managed to reduce its losses from $8 million in 2011 to $4.8 million in 2012.

In an effort to bring the publisher back to profitability, Atari has announced the closure of French Test Drive Unlimited studio Eden Games, which was already a shadow of its former self after widespread lay-offs hits the developer back in 2011. Atari will sell of any assets.

Atari also sold its renaming stake in French television channel GameOne, bringing in $7.6 million.

The future does show some promise, with Atari's mobile games such as Breakout: Boost, Atari's Greatest Hits and Asteroid Gunner pulling in combined downloads of over 10 million.

Atari Brand: Cursed or Not? Discuss. Whilst closing Eden Games might sound a little crazy to Test Drive Unlimited fans (I'm one of them), maybe they know more about Forza Horizon than anyone else and decided they can't compete, in which case it'd be a wise move. Wishful thinking on my part methinks, but I'm more optimist than pessimist these days.
