Syndicate, the Starbreeze developed FPS which delivered the retro franchise to a whole new audience earlier this year, failed to live up to sales targets in part because of the problems in the retail space and GAME's collapse, the studio's CEO Michael Nermark told GamesIndustry.
"There's so many reasons why a game succeeds or fails from a commercial point-of-view," said Nermark.
"We released the game about a month or more ago, and we're doing our post-mortem right now: what did we do right, what did we do wrong, and of course we will look at the commercial side as well.
"The numbers are not as high as we would like, and I think if you asked anyone they would say the same thing about any game they made.
"But [Syndicate] was released in the midst of GAME going under; the retail space is hurting, and I think that hurt us because we were such a retail product."
The game charted at No.7 and spent only three weeks inside the Top 40.
Syndicate released in the UK on February 24, a month before GAME entered administration and was stocked during the game's launch period. However, stock replenishment at the high street retailer was an issue as GAME's troubles worsened.
