Tom Orry, Editor - SSX, PS3

SSX screenshot

I'm not exactly loving SSX, and I think it's down to two main reasons. Firstly, and I realise this is a fairly shallow reason, I'm not wowed by the visuals. I remember snowboarding games really impressed me in the past, with the massive mountains and lush snow in the likes of SSX 3 and Amped 2 helping those titles be among the most visually impressive on their systems. This new SSX doesn't dazzle in the same way - or at all. Secondly, I'm finding the whole thing a bit manic. You board down the slopes at such great speed, that it's hard to focus on doing anything well, and the design of the mountains feels quite messy to me - and yes, I am coming to this after years without touching a game in the series, so fans may well disagree completely.

Oh, and now I'm back on MotorStorm RC thanks to another VG time trial challenge - buy it now if you haven't already. It's brilliant.

Neon Kelly, Deputy Editor - I Am Alive, Xbox 360

I Am Alive screenshot

I want to like I Am Alive. It's an underdog, for starters - a project that miraculously came back from the dead. It's also got a post-apocalyptic theme, a backdrop I tend to favour, and it's trying to do something new. The climbing mechanics are highly original, and it's trying to approach combat in a way we've rarely seen before.

The problem I have at the moment is that it keeps puncturing its own atmospheric bubble. Our unnamed hero encounters three cop cars within minutes of starting the game - but can he search them? No. He completely ignores the ambulance he passes, and later there's a Humvee with fuel canisters visibly attached to the outside. But you can't even inspect these things. I get that it's a budget release, but it's annoying to have such things in front of you - and yet untouchable - in a game that's supposed to be about survival. The same goes for the invisible walls that pop up, and for the impassable scenery that would pose far less challenge than all the stuff he happily clambers over.

Oh, and don't get me started about the two early villains who hack through a wall - revealing that they've been hiding in a cul-de-sac with no entry or exit points. I guess they just thought they'd barricade themselves in an empty yard till I wandered past.

Still, I do want to like it, and Martin saw enough goodness in it to give it a 7. I've also just had dinner with a journalist who raved about how great it was for a good 15 minutes. On that basis, I'll grant I Am Alive a reprieve - for now.

Martin Gaston, Reviews Editor - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Xbox 360

This might very well be my last week of playing Skyrim for quite some time, as Mass Effect 3 is finally here. Sorry Skyrim, but BioWare's latest has got space, Shepard(s) and sexytimes with famous games journalists!

Still, Skyrim has me sitting around in Breezehome while Aela cooks me dinners. And by 'sitting around' I mean fiddling around in drawers and cupboards sorting out all the tat I've spent months and months gobbling up from any and indeed every possible area. And, boy, what a collection of useless tat and virtual trinkets I've managed to accumulate - but there comes a point in every Dovahkiin's life where he needs to think about why he's going around picking up so much junk.

We've had a good run, Skyrim, but I'm just going out and I might be some time. Or I might get withdrawal symptoms in the next few days and bung you back in the disc tray. It could go either way, really.

Emily Gera, MMO Editor - Mass Effect 2, Xbox 360

Mass Effect 2 screenshot

I'm an idiot. I forgot to power up Legion and now I'm already onto the Suicide Mission. I. Forgot. To. Wake. Up. Legion. Oh and did I mention I neglected to save the game at a reasonable point before this happened? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. These are the joys of trying to finish off Mass Effect 2 as quickly as humanly possible before ME3's release, and losing your mind in the process. God help me.

I've just started Killzone 2 but it's way too early to say anything constructive or to form an opinion yet. MotorStorm RC and Uncharted 2 have once again been receiving my attention, and once more I can't stop singing the latter's praises.

Once I'm past Uncharted and Killzone it's onto Stranglehold and Singularity before getting ready for Max Payne 3.

That's normal, it's just binge gaming. I do the same, currently I'm on my Star Ocean: The Last Hope binge which should last a good few weeks, then I'll move onto something else. Previously it was Test Drive Unlimited 2, before that it was Star Wars: The Old Republic. That's my last 3 months of gaming in a nutshell, and considering I have a massive collection of games that's definitely binge gaming.

I've been back in Skyrim for the last few days. I don't know how you would describe someone like me or if there is even a description for what I do but I tend to stick to whatever it is I am doing for a while. That's not describing it very well... I have this habit that, say whether it's reading, drawing, playing a certain game or something else, that I will continue to do that and only that constantly for a while. Does that even make sense?!

This week I've managed to drag myself away from my Kindle, where I have read about 4 books in a week or something silly. I didn't even touch my playstation because I was too busy reading. :s
Now that I've put Skyrim in, it's Skryim and nothing else that will take up my time until I fancy a change. Then I might put in The Sims and won't even think twice about Skyrim or my kindle for another week or so.
It's like i can't face a variety of things to take up my time. It's one thing at a time or none at all. I think that makes me odd?

Anyway, I've decided to concentrate on the main storyline of Skyrim since starting to play again because of what happened when all bugs threatened to ruin my whole save. At least, if it happens again, I will know what happens in the main story and can concentrate a new save on side quests.

Was a mate of mine at work that got me interested, didn't realise it was so popular! can certainly see from playing it why it didn't work as a standard subscription MMO, WAY too complicated for your average WoW gamer and the game itself doesnt do a great job of explaining everything in the time that you get to see it.

My character name is Endless i think my account is @octopusvolcano usually ensures I can get my username ;)

I've also beeing playing Star Trek Online!! but now Streetfighter X Tekken is here in all ot's gloriousness! Despite the sound bug and omissions on the 360 It's still one of the most enjoyable fighters I've ever played. The perfect mashup imo. I still suck against the AI though, no change there. In fact Akuma feels downright unfair at the moment!

I have however caved and ordered a copy of Mass Effect 3 I would have gotten it eventually, but I may end up playing some multiplayer intermingled with sfxt because co-op vs AI is always a blast with people you know!

I love it but the Deadly Descents have been by far my least favorite part. Just as your feeling the different mountains and flying around loving it they toss another of those in. They just annoy me and really breakup the feeling of the game, but geotags are my new favorite thing. So once you get past the learning and it starts coming together head to the explore and world events and its an awesome game.

Been playing Motorstorm RC along with every other chump! Also Ridge Racer, Lumines, Wipeout 2047 and Frobisher says. Yet to start Uncharted on Vita though.

On PS3 I've played Journey and it blew me away. It might not be to everyone's taste, but it was certainly an experience.

Played the SSX demo, still undecided on the game, but could get it and Cars 2, of all things, on 360.

Yeah man.. I just mentioned the exclusives. But those games you mention are two of my favourites ;)

Dirt 3 is AMAZING!! So is Dirt 2.. I think that they complement each other rather than compete.

In my opinion Skate 2 is better than 3. Skate 3 is a great game, but it became less realistic and a bit more Tony Hawk. It's all about bigger, faster, higher.. I sold it and kept 2.

If I was gonna add anything to munkees list Id say to check out Dirt 3 and any of the Skate series. I only have Skate 2 Im sure Skate 3 is gold but I still play Skate 2 every once in a while so never felt like I needed Skate 3.

Mass Effect 3 is AMEEZZIINNN I can't stop thinking about going home to play it. My expectations were relatively low after ME2, but they seemed to have made a game that's truly worthy of finishing the trilogy. Not that I've completed it yet, but the bulk of the game works spectacularly in the context of the previous ones.

Professor Layton and Pandora's Box - S'awite I suppose. First few puzzles were pretty lame, but it's engaging enough for a train journey. I hope it has subtitles.

Cheers munkee, that's a helpful list. I got it last month for cheap after trading in some stuff. So far I've bought LBP, MotorStorm:Apocalypse, Uncharted, Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2. I plan on borrowing Heavy Rain and Infamous from a mate and I'd completely forgotten about Wipeout HD. I've never played a Wipeout game (I know, I know) so it sounds like a good starting point.

The SSX criticisms above are all from people who haven't hit the tipping point yet, where things just fall into place and it switches from being a frustrating fight against the mountain and instead morphs into some serious fun. Nailing a full-mountain combo for a 10 million point bonus has yet to get old! The "campaign" is poorly designed, so don't do the usual "finish that first and then play the rest" thing. It's best to just trickle through World Tour a little bit at a time and focus on the explore/events aspect instead. And, Ridernet brings things together quite wonderfully!

Picked up Bulletstorm in the GAME sale, and .... wow. I actually feel a little guilty that I didn't pick this one up when it was first released, because it is quite brilliant. Also got RAGE, and early missions make me want to cry for what happened to the once industry leading id. Fetch quests? This is your evolution of FPS? For shame, id, you are better than this. (Although, the actual combat is still satisfyingly vicious.)

I finished Batman Arkham Asylumn which is a smashing game. I'll return to it at some point and attempt to finish off all the side quests and riddler challenges.

I've had to restart on Sims 3 Pets as it could no longer see my save file for some reason. Enjoying it more this time round.

On the Vita I've been playing FIFA. I tried out the Be a Goalie mode which I enjoyed for the 2 or 3 attempts on goal, the rest of the time was really boring.
