Speaking during a conference call following the company's third-quarter financial report, Ubisoft has re-confirmed that Splinter Cell Conviction will be an Xbox 360 exclusive.

Sam Fisher's highly anticipated and somewhat delayed next outing was announced as an Xbox 360 and Games for Windows exclusive back at X06 in September 2006, but after reports of development problems and a perpetually slipping release date Ubisoft went quiet on the game.

Today the publisher confirmed that the game is due for release in the 12-month period starting April 1, 2009. If you don't own an Xbox 360 and were hoping the delays were down to a new multi-format development strategy, you're sadly still out of luck.

New stuff to check out

Why can't Ubisoft take Conviction back to the Chaos Theory-type game? I would buy a simple upgrade to Chaos Theory (8 person multiplayer vs only 4, and perhaps new maps) in an instant. In fact, I probably still be playing Chaos Theory if it worked on my Xbox 360 (their patch doesn't work)

Please Pretty Please June 30, 2009??????????????
I am anxiously waiting for the game to come out.

Will it have Driving Missions in the game.
I hope they feature Podgorica, Montenegro which is a country that I am from in the game.
The ending will feature Sam Fisher Hugging Anna Grimsdottir wearing a skirt.

Thats all good Wido but the first splinter cell was out first on the original XBOX and not the 360 the game was later released on PS2 and PC but waqs released on the more powerful console first. 5-6 months later appearing on the lesser consoles and the more powerful PC. Also to point out the instal base of the xbox was far less than the PS2 at the time.

Why bother posting in this article then.

Its Ubisoft of course there going to let it out on the 360 first as of how long it has been in production for. As of releasing the game out on the 360 as of more people own the 360 than the PS3 Ubisoft shall be going into safe water. Then they would release it on the PS3 thats what they basically did with the first Splinter Cell.

Even if it wasn't exclusive, I'd still get it...

Always possible, just like it's possible for MGS4 to turn up as an alternative version on 360.

And I don't think it's a case of developers pulling out as much as it is MS waving the greenbacks around. But that's the way to do business and MS know it.

No, this game has been an exclusive ever since it was first announced, about three years ago. I think it was Microsoft responding to Sony getting MGS4 exclusive.

And I don't think this will come to PS3, as I'm fairly certain MS paid out to keep it exclusive. Unless Ubisoft release an alternate version a la MGS2: Substance.

In actual fact they did that with the first Splinter Cell. Saying it was an exclusive then couple of months down the line it appeard on the PS2. So I'm gathering they would release it on the PS3 but for now just on the 360, which is probably the best move for Splinter Cell as of how long its been in production.

Double Agent is a good game as it provided a twist than the others. You had some tough decisions throughout the game which made play through it twice. Really hope that Splinter Cell Conviction is a stellar of a game.

Just hope it's better than the last one. Shame about PS3 though, though I have a feeling it'll just end up coming out later on PS3 anyway if enough people complain...

Great f-ing news! I'm totally over the moon. Its a shame that it won't be coming out on the PS3, so my 360 shall be clocking up some hours because of Sam Fishers new adventure.
