South Park: The Stick of Truth’s censored scenes are replaced by an image of the European flag, a facepalming statue and a brief synopsis of the scene in question, a leaked shot of the game has revealed.
Almost 3 minutes worth of scenes are censored in the European console version, including multiple sequences that see “someone actively being [anal] probed” and another “in which the doctor is performing an abortion on the player”.
VideoGamer.com can also independently confirm that this is how the censored scenes appear in-game.
Unusually, the censorship was not enforced by a ratings body but instead a “market decision” made by Ubisoft Europe. The European PC version remains uncut, as do the North American console and PC versions.
South Park: The Stick of Truth releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this Friday, March 7.
Given the explicit content prevalent throughout the rest of the game it’s difficult to truly understand why some of the scenes were censored. Maybe an ‘uncut’ next-gen version is in the works at Ubi…?
