GAME is to open over 200 stores before school begins on Friday in order to make the most of the highly anticipated launch of Skylanders Giants, reports MCV.

32 stores will open their doors at 7am on Friday, October 19, with a further 199 stores open no later than 8:30am.

"We can't wait for this new giant Skylanders adventure to start. The franchise has captured the imagination of kids around the world and taken the game and toy industry by storm," said GAME's marketing director Anna-Marie Mason.

"We know that children up and down the country will want to get their copy of Skylanders Giants as quickly as possible this Friday, so we will be opening 231 stores before the school run begins."

GAME is also selling an exclusive glow-in-the-dark portal.

Game's website lists all participating stores.

I know what my mum would have said if I'd asked to go to the game shop before school.

Imho, strategically-targeted marketing tactics such as these, constitute child abuse. :|

It's a good move for the game stores who really need the business.

Probably a bad move for parents, though. School runs are already evil enough without having an extra journey.

When the Wii was going to launch. I told my teachers any homework, save it till next week as I wont be here tomorrow as I am getting the Wii. I rather say it how it is.

Allowing them to get their grubby mitts on the game before school - I'd wager there might be a lot of truancy that day! :p

Up and own the country, kids will be paying even less attention at school than usual on that day, and being a whole sight more hyperactive. This is not a smart move, Acti.

Craftiness! Although I do remember what it was like to sit through an entire day of school, willing the time to go swiftly (but inevitably seemingly slowing the clock down), getting home ASAP to see a game box sitting on the table. Never mind dinner, changing out of the school uniform, or anything else, and diving straight into it.

Oh... I'm getting old...
