EA today revealed Skate 3, confirming the game for release in May 2010.

The latest in the ground-breaking series promises to bring the camaraderie and competitive excitement of real-life skateboarding to the hands of gamers. Whether online or offline, players will be able to team up to build the ultimate skate crew. Players will take part in team-based challenges, compete against rival crews and leave their mark on Port Carverton.

"The social and community aspects of the Skate franchise are something we've always embraced, but we've never done anything to the scale you’re going to see in SKATE 3," said Senior Producer, Jason DeLong. "We're giving gamers a very unique experience by providing them with the tools they need to build their ultimate team or to create a team comprised entirely of their online friends. From there, it's all about proving yourself - teaming up, and throwing down."

In addition to new cooperative gameplay, Skate 3 will feature a beefed up Hall of Meat mode and the all-new skate.School allowing players to get to grips with the game.

User generated content will also be back, with the skate.Create feature suite giving players the tools to created graphics, videos, and skate parks.

EA has also announced that players who pre-order Skate 3 will receive an unlock code that gives them exclusive access to the iconic Black Box Distribution Skate Park, home turf of Zero, Mystery, and Fallen skate teams.

Skate 3 is in development at Black Box and is scheduled for release in May 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3. EA hasn't released any screenshots, but you can check out the teaser trailer by following this link.

Are you kidding? This is exactly the kind of game you can keep going back to. Even neglecting the story progression you can just shred around aimlessly or jump online and rip it up with a few "dudes" online.

Each to his own though. I confess that I am a skater although I've not been out for a roll for some time. That may lend something to it's appeal for me.

And Skate 2 is well worth getting.

Looking forward to a new city and further improvements with the 3rd that's for sure.

I like skate although I've only rented them rather then buy as I haven't felt like a game I would keep going back to and the fact theres a new one year doesn't help imo.

Cool, I loved the first game, but gave the second one a miss as I wasnt impressed at all with the demo. Will be keeping an eye on this to see if it improves on things.
