Milestone, developer of the SBK racing simulation series, is sceptical about 3D in gaming, lead designer Simone Magni has told VideoGamer.com.

Speaking in an interview with the site, Magni said that he's not sure the benefit is worth the cost.

"The entire Milestone team is keeping the situation monitored, but actually I'm personally sceptical about the 3D," Magni told us. "I find that it's a technology that works well, but costs too much compared the benefits it gives. I'm ready to change my mind if something revolutionary would come out in the near future."

Late last year Gran Turismo 5 shipped with 3D display support, while MotorStorm Apocalypse will arrive with 3D functionality in March.

SBK 2011 is due for release on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in May.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

3D is currently a hot topic in the world of video games, but despite Sony's strong support it's yet to really take off. With such a minority of gamers able to take advantage of the technology, if pushed we'd side with Milestone.
