Saints Row 4 has been denied an age rating by the Australian Classification Board for a second time, despite the removal of the anal probe weapon.
A three person panel determined the game to be unsuitable for an R 18+ rating largely because of drug use in the sequel.
"In the Review Board's opinion, Saints Row 4 could not be accommodated within the R 18+ classification as drug use related to incentives and rewards is not permitted," the ACB stated.
Drug use was also the downfall of XBLA hit State of Decay, which was denied classification because of its use of real-world narcotics to restore health.
A "safe" version of Saints Row 4 will be submitted to the Australian Classification Board, but it's not known what cuts will be made.
Saints Row 4 has gone gold and will be released August 23 on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. The anal probe weapon will be offered exclusively to Season Pass buyers.
