Harmonix has revealed that the Guitar Hero controllers will be compatible with its new PS3 and Xbox 360 title Rock Band.

Despite no longer being involved in the development of Guitar Hero, Harmonix's in-development title Rock Band will have support for the guitar controllers which put them on the gaming map.
"For some reason, IGN posted that Rock Band will not be compatible with Guitar Hero guitars. I thought I'd drop in and let you know that this is not correct," said Harmonix artist Jason Booth on the game's official forum.
This doesn't mean we won't be seeing new peripherals for Rock Band, Booth later adding that we'll have to "wait to hear about that."
US retailer GameStop currently lists a bunch of peripherals for release alongside the game with the total cost coming in at more than $300. The microphone is listed for $39.99, the standard guitar is priced $59.99 and the wireless guitar and drums are going for $79.99 each.
Rock Band is scheduled for release this Christmas for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

When Guitar Hero is plugged into ps3 to play Rock Band, Rock Band reads the Guitar as a Microphone.
