Deep Silver and Techland's Dead Island has entered the UK All Prices All Formats chart at No. 1, beating off competition from Space Marine, Driver: San Francisco, Resistance 3 and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. 3DS re-tooling Star Fox 64 3D also managed to scrape into the top 10 at No. 9. Sales of last week's leader, Deus Ex, slumped somewhat in the wake of a swathe of new releases, with unit sales falling by 60 per cent.

A couple of other new releases didn't have as much success. SEGA's Kinect horror title Rise of Nightmares managed to sneak in at No. 37, while UTV Ignition's El Shaddai didn't make it into the top 40 at all. The beautiful action game charted at No. 37 in the Xbox 360 chart and No. 27 in the PS3 chart.

VideoGamer.com Analysis

Deep Silver must be thrilled with the success of Dead Island, which has proved marketing can counter a mixed critical reception. Space Marine and Resistance 3 also did well, while Driver seems to be sticking around in the top 5.

Next week there's little to challenge the top of the chart, with Sony's God of War Collection Volume 2 and Microsoft's The Gunstringer the only titles of note.

Although I hate to see Deus Ex removed from the top slot, it is nice to see new IPs doing well. Of course, it is sadly indicative of the state of the industry, with its 'play THIS now, and THAT next week, and then THESE after that, ad nauseum' flavour-of-the-week mentality, which is only going to get worse from here on out...

It exists only in the minds of those who know who 'mangod' is.

Looks a bit like the bro in the banner ad, now I think about it.
