Sales of Resi 5 eclipsed both film and music sales

Outsold U2's new album and grossed more than the top 5 movies in the UK this weekend.

Public Relations company Monument PR has announced that video games are now officially the UK's favourite form of entertainment, as proved by sales of Capcom's record-breaking new game Resident Evil 5 over the weekend.

Sales of Resident Evil 5 eclipsed both film and music sales since its launch on Friday, March 13.

- Outsold every item in the UK Singles Chart (physical and digital of the UK Top 200).

- Outsold U2's chart-topping new album's total sales since release in one weekend.

- Grossed more than the top 5 movies combined in the UK this weekend

Capcom's Leo Tan commented: "This is proof if any were needed that games are THE entertainment medium of choice in 2009. Thanks to its strong storyline, amazing graphics and compelling co-op play, Resident Evil 5 provides hundreds of hours of entertainment at a relatively low cost - and it's this value for money that consumers are increasingly responding to."

We feel the game is well deserving of its success, despite not quite being able to match the high reached by its predecessor.

Never been a huge fan of resi 5 but i was told to buy it for co-op so me and my mate could play online, plus i seen good previews. I have to say i wished i hadnt missed out on the golden years of the first 4.
This game is great, esp the graphics! The inventory system i think makes the game more fun, you actually have to think about what you really need.

Well deserved Capcom, but shame on you for letting those dumb hollywood bigheads ruin the movie franchise when they should of kept them true to the games!

P.s bring a PC version and il buy it :D

it shows that despite all the idiots in the press saying bad things its still one of the best games to add to your collection, and speaking of films maybe if the idiots that done the Resi movies made them more along the story of the games they would have made alot more money too.
