Resi 5 has shipped over 4 million

The largest first shipment of any title in the Resident Evil series to date.

Capcom has announced that the first shipment of Resident Evil 5 was over four million units worldwide, a new record for the series.

The publisher notes that the playable demo released on Xbox LIVE Marketplace and the PlayStation Store raised expectations, culminating in the largest first shipment of any title in the series to date.

Since its debut in 1996 the Resident Evil series has shipped over 40 million copies worldwide, with Capcom noting it has "paved the pathway" for the Survival Horror genre.
