Last week saw the release of the Rainbow Six Vegas Black Pack for Xbox 360. The pack contained five maps and Xbox gamers were asked to part with 800 Microsoft Points to get their hands on the new stuff.

However, the new content quickly disappeared from Xbox LIVE Marketplace. The good news is that the Black Pack is back and is now free.

"Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas Black Pack Downloadable Content for Xbox 360 Live was originally intended to be free content for the fans of Rainbow Six Vegas. We apologize for the error," said Ubisoft. "All players who purchased the Black Pack will be reimbursed automatically."

The Ubisoft statement also reveals further good news for Rainbow Six Vegas players.

"... as a token of our appreciation for the Rainbow Six community, we are making the Red Pack free as of Friday July 6th as well. Thanks for playing and we hope you enjoy this free content, concluded the statement.

RB6 Vegas is probably the definitive game for showing a good cover-system in action (i.e. being able to slam up behind a wall and poke your gun around the corner or over the top without much chance of taking damage).

It's the best implementation of that dynamic I've yet seen, puts Gears of War to shame in that department.

Offline can be fiendishly difficult for achievements, online is the usual glitcherfest if you select Quick Match but if you get a private room going with your friends it's a blast.

4-player co-op terrorist hunts are probably the most fun thing. Or leaving a stick of C4 beneath a bungee rope. Or being the only player online who bothered to equip a gas mask and tear gas when nobody else did. Or having your mate shout at you because when he yelled 'Covering Fire!' and ran forwards into a hail of bullets he expected you to be doing some shooting to back him up rather than sneaking out for a quick puff in the garden and hoping he wouldn't notice.

Fun. Fun. Fun.
