I keep telling myself that it's time to start over in Football Manager 2013, but I can't stop my current game. It's 2025 and things are going well at Barca. I did just lose to my old club Spurs in the Champions League final, but you can't win them all - and to be fair, the starting 11 there is essentially the team I built before moving on.

I've got a handful of youth players on the fringe of making it into the first team, so I don't feel as though my job is done yet. I'd like to go a whole season unbeaten, but given the somewhat crazy scores FM 2013 can produce, it's not going to be easy. Bring on the 2025/2026 season.

If you're in the mood for a racer this weekend, don't bother with Need For Speed: Most Wanted or Forza Horizon. Head out to your local store and pick up a cheap copy of PGR4.

A week ago, I would have never offered that advice. Though I've always been a fan of the genre - you've heard me banging on about Need For Speed and Forza for yonks - I remember feeling particularly underwhelmed by PGR4 on its release. Looking back on it, I don't know why. I think it may have had something to do with the game's aggressive vehicle handling, and its merciless determination to spin you off-track at even the slightest mistake.

But after years of playing racers where accidents don't matter because of rewind systems and rubber-banding, it's exhilarating to go back to a game where skill and concentration really does count. Pole positions feel like a victory, rather than a given, while balancing the throttle and wrestling with the wheel makes you feel like a driver, rather than a mere passenger.

It still holds up as well, if not better, than almost anything else in the genre today, then. The hazardous weather handling has yet to be bettered, in my opinion, and the thrill of the race is perfectly pitched between sim satisfaction and arcade glory. A disappointing reminder of the tragedy behind Bizarre's closure.

aliens -

Mostly this week I've been dipping into Teleglitch - the indie roguelike sci-fi horror top-down shooter that ticks too many genre-boxes to be conveniently explained. This week's INDIE FACE is a good place to start if you're interested in finding out more, and I've also made an extended video of me playing through the first section of that game. I still haven't managed to get past level 4, but thankfully I've worked out a couple of the basics: Crafting a nailgun as soon as possible is vital if you don't want to run out of ammo, and you can also use eight empty cans of tinned meat to craft some makeshift form of armour. It's hard to convey just how exciting this second discovery has made me feel, and I'm hoping it'll help me make it all the way to level 5.

I've not actually been playing any Aliens: Colonial Marines, but I've spent enough time watching Steve play it to know that it isn't something worth recommending. There's some cracking big-budget stuff on the way soon, but for now I'm happy to just revisit classics and spend my cash on some cool indie games.

New stuff to check out

I actually got some game time in on the 360. For in a few rounds on Battlefield 3. Seems I couldn't miss hitting the choppers with my RPG. I hit the same poor sod 4 times in one match.
Also did a bit more on Spec Ops The Line which has turned out to be a very good game. Thanks to everyone here who recommended that one.

Mobile games have been Bug Village, Asphalt, Contract Killer, Hill Climb Racing and my little one has been playing Ragdoll Run

Transformers Prime on Wii U, a lot better than I thought for a cartoon licence. Hitman Absolution on 360 again, I WILL finish this game.

Gradually getting through Rocketbirds on Vita too. It's really good and I'd recommend it easily. Also Corpse Party which is actually pretty spooky.

I gave Tera: Rising a bash over the weekend and i'm really enjoying it, virtually no restrictions for free accounts and an exceptionally well polished game. Plus it looks amazing! I am put of a bit by the fact it's supposed to be an action game with no tab-targeting and yet ranged classes are still rooted for all their skill activations. But iit has meant that I can enjoy a melee class for a change!

Played a little Guild Wars 2 some DMC, F1 Race Stars and a smidgin of Minecraft. Mostly my week has been GW2 and Tera though.

I've only really been playing Borderlands 2, this is mostly due to wanting to try out all of the classes. So far Zer0 is level 50, Maya 25ish, Axton 10, Salvador 4 and Gaige 36, I doubt i'll level 50 all of them but I want to max out Gaige and it's only a matter of time until the fourth DLC comes out.

I remember talking about Journey last week, so I must have pretty much played nothing this week! Such is life.

I didn't, did I?! It was detuned and Linger in Shadows last week. Well, I played a load of Journey for a few days. Just so good. Picked up the Companion trophy which I'd not managed before and a few other bits so that I had the coolest robes and an incredibly long scarf. Not that I really cared about any of that, it was just that feeling you get on the last sand level, and the final snowy bit...

The usual for me, League of Legends and Football Manger. Been playing quite well as Ezreal and think ADC is my best position right now, but I really hate insta lockers in that game, can't Riot implement a system where you chose your lane before matchmaking and it picks a team that has one person in each position? Would make life much easier.

In terms of Football Manager, almost finished my third season with QPR and sitting comfy in fifth. Sadly I am 4-0 down to Shaktar in the Europa league so will be going out in the second leg, but promisingly I have bought 3 Brazil under 20 internationals that will become 4 and a half star and already have Doria (in the form of his life) and Admilson (out on loan playing in the Santos starting 11 and scoring like a beast) as Brazil fringe players. Lastly Welbeck now has 34 goals in 23 competitive games in all competitions. £8 million well spent me thinks!

I've been playing a lot Dota 2 again, but I think I'm going to stop playing for while because I don't feel like I'm improving, and it's hard to enjoy a game when you've put over 10 hours in and don't feel you've gain much out/ progress. I'm also fairly worried to play online again after my last couple efforts. I want to enjoy this game, but I seem to have more fun watching other people play, then play this myself...

Besides I don't really have the time to put 45 minutes straight in at time in one burst. That's not to say I don't like playing games that require a large time sync, but I just value the ability pause a game in the middle of something, and know that I can come back and play from where I left off. I'm always tense that whilst play dota 2, that I'll suddenly have to go off and do something out of blue and that I would be detrimental to the rest of the team. I know that's the nature of the game, but that is the nature of my situation.

I also picked up where I left off on a few other games this week.

I have played and finished Aliens: Colonial Marines on the 360 on it's hardest setting...this took me only 7 or 8 hours with a mate and is easily the worse game I have ever played.

Thank God it was short though!

Also started playing Dead Space 3 on co-op and about a third into that and really enjoying it so far as well as Trine 2 on PS3.

Good seeing folks sticking with their games, FM with his Life Is Crime and Tom with his Football Manager. I'm currently still spending time on Red Faction: Armageddon and Torchlight 2, although I have just patched Path of Exile so I'd probably be spending some time on that this week.

Life is Crime on Android for me. Again. Hit my first glitch in the game last night where my leaderboards weren't updated correctly by the server, got a response from support within 45 minutes. This is a free mobile game. It has great support. Incredible.

I've also become very versatile with spreadsheets, proof that violent games aren't just about whacking opponents, gang warfare, weapon upgrades, drug dealing and stolen goods, they're edumakayshunal too.
