PES 2014 will not feature rainy weather, Spanish stadiums or the series Stadium Editor, Konami has revealed.

The omission of the weather effect is due to building the whole game “from scratch” on the new FOX Engine, PES community manager Adam Bhatti stated on the Winning Eleven Blog, saying that though “implementing weather itself is fairly feasible, we need to think through of how its effect shows through in gameplay.

“This includes the pitch becoming slippery, ball bouncing, some elements to make the team used to that climate somewhat more power in terms of balance.”

Bhatti says that Konami is “going to try further this year to get the elements sorted and have them implemented for 2015”.

Rain is often considered a standard feature of football games. The mechanic has been implemented in previous PES and FIFA titles for numerous years.

Meanwhile, Spanish stadiums have been omitted owing to EA being “extremely aggressive with signing deals with clubs and leagues this year, and it has meant we can’t implement major European stadiums, including NO Spanish stadiums.

“People were getting worried when [EA] announced exclusive deals with Spanish teams. Well it turned out it meant we couldn’t implement their stadium, amongst others.”

The game will ship with “roughly 20 stadiums,” Bhatti says.

Furthermore, PES’s stadium editor has also been removed.

“I can’t go into it, but [the removal of the stadium editor] in particular has made the team realise more than ever about acquiring licensing, and we’re determined to fight back in this regard next year,” Bhatti continues.

“If things are removed from edit mode because of licensing each year, it would rip out the soul of PES, and we must not let that happen.”

PES 2014 launches on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on September 20, with PC and PSP versions to follow at a later date. Unlike FIFA 14, the game is skipping a release on next-generation consoles.
