According to Gamekyo Konami will drop its cumbersome Konami ID online gaming system for the upcoming release of PES 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

Previously Konami had insisted that users of a Konami game needed a PS3/Xbox 360 account, a Konami ID and a specific game account - an overly complex process that has caused many problems for players of Metal Gear Online.

The good news for PES fans is that for this year's game all you'll need in order to get online is an Xbox LIVE or PSN account.

actually there more seeing as atleast 2 lobbies (max 950) within the european are normally full when about 2 months ago it was just one, then there are survival and tournemant nights and it gets even more packed with like 5 lobbies (max 750) beeing full.

You only have to remember one username and password. infact not even that seeing as you can save your password etc when you next login. i think we kinda do the same for most online pc games like WoW, it doesnt bother me and it just makes people lazy if they dont play online because they cba with signing up.

and i think it makes sense having this system set up for this game. because otherwise you would be stuck with the same name and character gender for ever unless you change psn and with that you cannot have the dlc that comes with the original psn.

To play MGO you need:

Konami ID (min. 8 characters) + Password
Game ID (min. 8 characters) + Password
Unique character name

PSN ID = Useless.

Regardless of how long it takes to set up, it was a retarded system for such high profile and important game.

It's also worth noting that for a tripleA title, MGS4 shifted 4.5 million units worldwide and only 1.3 million people jumped through Konami's hoops to take the game online 'for free' (as of May 09).

I guess Mr_Ninjutsu you can only assume that the remaining 3.2 million people were either offline, lazy or stupid.

I tried to find figures on the number of people playing MGO, but I couldn't find anything concrete, the highest being 100k people a day (a long time ago). I suspect it's a fair bit less than that now, possibly 10k a day.

Had Konami used PSN ID's instead of Konami ID's, I think it would be fair to say more people would have given MGO a go.

Why don't they drop the Konami ID for every game they make?
