The multi-million selling franchise is to make its debut on the PlayStation 3 this year, along with new versions for other home consoles and handheld platforms.

New in PES 2008 is a proprietary adaptive AI system entitled Teamvision that will learn and adapt according to the individual's style of play. This means the game will learn new ways to build attacks and to counter specific movements, ensuring games are more in line with the real thing.

Close control has also been enhanced, giving players better control when dribbling the ball, plus a number of new subtle moves have been added to aid in bypassing defenders.

Set pieces will also benefit from enhancements, with full control now given to the player in regard to the number of players and position of the defensive wall. A wider range of set piece options are also available, which talented players within the team can fully utilise.

Although PES 6 was released on Xbox 360, the game was criticised for its uninspiring next-gen visuals. Konami is looking to put this right with PES 2008, promising true next-gen versions on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. Player detail has been increased and now offers full facial animation and high-definition detail.

Something else lacking in PES 6 on Xbox 360 was a full edit mode, which thankfully will be present in next-gen versions this time around.

PES 2008 will be released in the autumn for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, PC and Nintendo DS.

The only explanation I can think of is that Pro Evolution Soccer, as compared with Fifa, is considered more hardcore and difficult, and, therefore, less suited to the Wii.

I noticed that there's no Wii version. I'd just like to say thanks to Konami for that decision. If 6 Million consoles weren't enough for them. Oh yeah, they don't like complex controls...

Looks OK. The 'Team Vision' CPU AI sounds interesting too - I hope they cant pull it off... and make a significant improvement over PES6 (rather than bashing out another quick&easy update)

glad to hear full edit mode will be in the 360 version - now all that remains is to work out which is the better version - PS3 or 360
