Who is better: the video game action hero or the movie action star?

Where would we be without action heroes? We'd have no one to fight off alien menaces, take down terrorists or run for high powered goverment positions. We've seen these actors become iconic figures in the last few decades, but in recent years video game characters have tried to muscle in on the action. But who is better: the video game action hero or the old fashioned movie action star? We've pitted the very best in head to head fights to find out.

Sam Fisher v Jack Bauer

This is a tough contest. Both Fisher and Bauer are clear experts in their field – preventing disasters through the application of extreme violence. They're both prepared to "go rogue" if need be, and they're both happy to improvise: Fisher uses broken mirror shards to look around corners, and bathroom sinks to bash people's faces in; Bauer can use any household item to torture you into a confession – whether it's necessary or not. However, in Splinter Cell Conviction it seems that Fisher is guided by simple instructions that are stylishly projected onto his surrounding scenery. Bauer, by contrast, only seems to operate under his own special brand of insane logic. If you hired him as a bodyguard, he'd probably shoot you in the lung – because that's precisely the last thing that the bad guys would expect.. Right? RIGHT?!

Winner: Jack Bauer, because he'll kill us if he doesn't win

Totally agree with your comment on JCVD, was really surprised how good it was, especially the monologue near the end of the film.

Have to disagree with Nathan Drake though, afraid that Indy would have to be the winner, might just be my nostalgia goggles getting in the way again.

I'm with Altaranga here. Dr Jones is a legend and Mr Drake needs to prove himself more, especially on the weapons front. Indiana Jones doesn't need an assortment of firearms.

You know I'm going to have to speak up about the harsh treatment of Indianan Jones. I agree that the Crystal Skull was a pile of steaming cack, but it is unfair to include this "film" as Nathan Drake is only on his second iteration and so Indy should be judged on the first two films also.

It would be like comparing the prices of old and new DLC on today's prices only, which those of us who listen to the podcast know is not a good basis for comparison. To be fair it needs to be like for like, and so we must go back in time when we only had Raiders and Temple of Doom.

And there we find a much younger, slicker and cooler Indy. He stopped the Nazis from conquering the world ffs! I mean what has Drake done that even comes close? Stopped a relatively small bunch of Russians from getting their hands some Nepalese trinket? And then there is the sword fight from Raiders of te Lost Arc. That was probably the coolest move in cinema, ever. What has Drake done?

We all know that the 4th film in a franchise is a bit hit and miss. Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (rubbish). Star Trek: The Voyage Home (nice). Alien: Resurrection (meh). Die Hard 4.0 (pretty good). So I say judge Nathan Drake aginanst all Indy films when Uncharted reaches its Crystal Skull. Until that point it has to be Indiana Jones ftw.
