‘You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure’ says exec.
A ‘small team’ is working on Mirror’s Edge 2, EA has confirmed.
Speaking to VideoGamer.com at E3, the outspoken Patrick Soderlund, who as senior vice president at EA Games Europe oversees all European game development, said he was “excited” by what developer DICE, where he is based, will do with the game.
Mirror’s Edge divided opinion on its release in November 2008. While fans applauded the innovative Parkour-inspired first-person action, critics slammed the game for its short length and poor storyline.
When asked for an update on the future of the IP, Soderlund told us: “Mirror’s Edge was a risky move. It was a bold move, a very innovative and inspiring move. The game wasn’t perfect by any means. We would have liked the game to sell better even though the game has sold better than most people think.”
He added: “You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure. It’s just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I’m excited about what we do.”
Soderlund’s comments are the first confirmation that a sequel is in development. Up to this point the game had only been mentioned by EA as a title in consideration. During a December 2008 conference call EA CEO John Riccitiello assured fans that the company wasn’t giving up on the IP, despite less than stellar sales.
As reported by Edge, Riccitiello said: "Mirror's Edge is one that was very strongly reviewed, that one's going to go forward. We're probably going to look into some issues around the design to make sure strong IP is married with strong business."
Unfortunately Soderlund couldn't offer any other details or a possible release date on the game.

I think interesting things could be done, with a starting point of the player, again as Faith, heading the running operation in the city, and offering hands-on training to two enthusiastic, promising sign-ups to the cause (not in the same places, but if the Atrium returned in some way, I'd still think that would be great).

Now for the gameplay I think the first game was too "static", I'd like more moving objects on the ME2, to spice up the challenge a bit. Fetching trains was good in ME, I'd like to see more of that.
Also, improved combat and ability to pack a pistol with you at least
One more thing, a better variety of music score; I know, music in ME was great, but it was all look-alike.
Some clouds in the skies perhaps? Maybe it's a graphics problem but I haven't seen ONE cloud throughout Mirror's Edge, and it made the sky seem so empty.
I dunno if this is workable but it would be nice to see those things in ME. And definetely make the game longer.

I like the suggestion of new characters and Faith managing the runners. It would be a cool challenge for the game designers to allow multiplayer, or certainly choice of character campaigns and/or alternating character campaigns. Allowing for male and female runners would be cool as each one could have signature moves and a male runner would presumably be able to perform more muscular moves than a female runner but wouldn't be as nible or agile. Definitely something for DICE to think about.
I agree about some different weather patterns but I think you need to be careful not to miss the point about ME. The whole idea is that the city is a sterile environment where everything (even the climate) is clean and blank. Plus the buidings are meant to be shiny and glossy and that doesn't work so well without sunshine! And since the city design is derived from Asian/Far East locations the designers have probably reflected the climate from those locations in there too. There are also clouds on the horizon behind the buildings if you look closely. Also, as someone who has gotten really tired of post-apocalyptic, gloomy, rain-soaked first person shooters, the blue sky of ME is a welcome break
I have to admit I really liked the score, how chillout/ambient it was. I wouldn't have changed it at all. And I'll be miffed if they put a ruddy orchestral score into ME2. Generic much.Last edited on Mon 6 July 2009 by mrwombosi
