Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has suggested that he would rather have seen Kojima Productions develop a game based around the franchise's mysterious cyborg character Gray Fox than Raiden, but caved to pressure after his team "insisted" the game should focus on the silver-haired swordsman.

"It was actually not my idea," Kojima told IGN when questioned why Raiden was chosen as the star of upcoming hack & slash Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, "it was my staff in Kojima Productions that insisted on Raiden, and I respected their idea.

"I wanted to really focus on production than development, and they wanted to come up with a really cool hack-and-slash title with some Katana action and Raiden in it, and I thought 'okay, that's fine, I respect that'.

"But in my personal opinion, I wanted to go for Frank Jaegar or Gray Fox. But if we had gone with that, I would have had to write the script and then be really committed to creating the game."

Despite their insistence on using Raiden though, Kojima Productions' project was thought to have been shelved following difficulties in development, and later resurrected by Bayonetta creators Platinum Games.

"I want to pass game development to the younger generation in my team," Kojima continued, "and have been trying to do so for quite some time. Before I never could give complete responsibilities for other games, but for Revengeance, they are fully in control.

"Besides, if I had created [Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance] and directed it, it wouldn't have been this game. I am very happy to see the growth in my team and how they have developed such an incredible game."

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance launches on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on February 22.

I think it would be interesting to dive into Gray Fox, but it couldn't be a game where it spanned into several games. Saying that, it could, but you know what I mean. I rather Kojima focus's on Ground Zeroes or Phantom's Pain ;) I am liking the look of Revengeance, even if the title is long for a videogame to keep spitting out in a conversation.
