The upcoming Wii U port of Mass Effect 3 will not be handled by BioWare.

Instead the porting duties will be handled by the Melbourne-based developer Straight Right, who previously worked on the iOS version of Shift 2: Unleashed.

"Happy to confirm that we're developing Mass Effect 3 for Wii U with our friends at BioWare!" said the developer on its Facebook page.

Mass Effect 3 will be one of the Wii U's launch titles. A date for the console's release is yet to be announced.

The game's first chunk of single-player DLC, Leviathan, launched on 360 and PC yesterday.

Probably for the best given Biowares recent track record for development.

The main game has been finished for a long time. All EA have done is bring in a studio that has had experience working on touch screen games, to make the Wii U pad controls user friendly. Whilst this may not look good from first glance, this can't be all bad news. All they have to do is to make this a straight port, with a few extra buttons on the touch pad. How hard can that be?...

*shudders*.... OK don't answer that.

Giving a port of Mass Effect 3 to a developer who has only ever worked on one iOS game? Yep, this sure sounds like "an unprecedented partnership between Nintendo and Electronic Arts", Riccitiello.
