The ESRB has classified BioWare's Mass Effect 2 as Mature, stating the second chapter in the sci-fi trilogy features blood, drug references, sexual content, strong language and violence.

The first thing to note is that the actual act of sex won't be depicted. Players can choose to have "romantic encounters", which involve watching what the ESRB describes as a "guided cutscene" in which two characters will flirt, kiss and/or embrace. Clothed alien/human characters may "prop a partner on top of a space console, clear away the clutter from a bed-slab, unzip a future-blouse, or just talk it out". An alien/human may also "gyrate her hips while on top," but "actual sex is never depicted" - the camera cuts away to show space furniture and ceilings.

The game also features alien pole dancing and suggestive comments such as "krogan sexual deviants enjoy salarian flexibility" and "if this is just about sex, maybe you should just f**king say so."

You'll find more over on the ESRB website, but if you're trying to avoid spoilers we'd recommend not clicking that link.

Mass Effect is is scheduled for release on January 29 for Xbox 360 and PC.

I think a guide to unzipping the different blouses you'll encounter on the Citadel would be useful. Obviously 90% of the guide will need to be about the Asari, because they're weird about that stuff.

Commander Shepard needs his own Blouse unzipping dvd as an extra.

There's something so much sexier about future-blouse unzipping. Present-day-blouse unzipping will never be the same.

Think the first one got a ESRB mature as well, seems a bit odd that it got away with a 12 rating in the UK.

Current box art on places like Amazon show a BBFC 15 rating for Mass Effect 2, and I think PEGI have given it an 18, which might cause no end of problems for retailers later on.

I'm racking my brains to think of a BBFC rated 15 game that includes the f-word but can't think of any.

Interesting snippets from the BBFC website for those that like their factoids (spoiler free):

Mass Effect: Contains moderate violence and one moderate sex scene
Mass Effect 2: Contains strong language and moderate violence

Mass Effect: When submitted to the BBFC the linear elements within the work had a running time (eg cut scenes) of 69m 17s.
Mass Effect 2: When submitted to the BBFC the linear elements within the work had a running time (eg cut scenes) of 60m 53s.

Both works were passed with no cuts made.
