BioWare has announced that it plans to release some free in-game content for Mass Effect 2 in a matter of weeks.

"Free in-game content in a couple weeks for those who have activated Cerberus Network! Stay tuned for more details," tweeted the developer.

The Cerberus Network is free to activate with a key included with new versions of Mass Effect 2. Buy second hand - most likely without the key - and you'll need to stump up 1200 MS Points/£9.99 to gain access to the DLC giving network.

Mass Effect 2 is out now for Xbox 360 and PC.

This is a great idea, it actually lets you feel like your in the game. Plus the free part is always good too.

New content is good, BUT the manner in which it is being delivered is a little... suspect. I can see all of EA's future titles taking such a closed-server approach. I guess I'd just like to see all possible available content put directly onto the marketplace. At the moment, this concept is being handled well, but I can see where abuse may happen in the future...

I think this is quite a good idea to 'reward' those who bought the game at retail. Second hand users still get to play the game and can choose to pay extra for the DLC or not.
