Canadian developer BioWare "would consider" co-operative multiplayer features for future Dragon Age and Mass Effect games.

BioWare co-founder and CEO Dr. Ray Muzyka told VideoGamer.com in a wide-ranging interview that such features "could make a great gameplay experience".

He said: "Sure, we would consider it. We haven't announced anything on that front yet, but those are interesting ideas. They could make a great gameplay experience. Whether we'll do them or not remains to be decided."

But before you get your role-playing knickers in a twist, Muzyka revealed that implementing co-op would not be as simple as inserting the feature into the single-player driven gameplay Dragon Age and Mass Effect are known for.

"It could [detract from the experience]," Muzyka said. "It might depend on how you do it.

"It's hard to weave a great single-player storyline into a multiplayer experience. It's not impossible. We've done it, and we're doing it again now in Star Wars: The Old Republic. But it is challenging."

Personally I love Co-op games and so does my friend and both of use wished Mass effect was coop for it being such a great game. Personally if I designed the Co-op I would let both characters create there characters and player 2 plays as a human teammate. Maybe give them a few choices they can make maybe when the groups themselves need to make a decision.

I think split screen would be cool but would take away form the moment, but online play both or all (if 4 players) would be played in full screen and all players wouldn't be stuck together and can venture on there own unless it requires a load maybe.

Also pausing the game would be hard and since it is Co-op it would keep everyone on there feet since you do have more than 1 player. If you also remember Mass effect always kept everyones level the same which was nice.

So in closing of my argument I think Co-op can work and even letting everyone create there own character would work great. You can pick your classes still to make everyone individual too and you can use your character in your story only start back at level 1 probally for your story. (This way you don;t have to recreate your character just start from the beginning).

I think Co-op can work if worked correctly and Mass effect begs for it.

Mass Effect is perfect for co-op. I'd love to be able to pick one of my squad to play as and join a friend's game. Obviously secondary players wouldn't be able to actively make the decisions, but I suppose it would be discussed like you're a team and all that. I think it could really work. Endless makes a good point about the combat though, I think the best solution is to not pause it when you select weapons and biotics.

Could be difficult in both DA and ME given most of the game time is spent paused queing up actions. Doesn't lend it's self too well to multiplayer co-op or otherwise. Unless they restrict you to the hot-keys only or something.

Considering the amount of time spent in a party in mass effect it should really be co-opable.

the co-op features of Demons souls work well, something like that would be good.
