Mass Effect also doing well; one million units sold in three weeks.

Jeff Bell, Corporate Vice President of Global Marketing for the Xbox 360, has revealed to GameDaily BIZ that worldwide sales of Halo 3 have surpassed five million units, with the BioWare developed Mass Effect notching up a million sales in only three weeks - much higher than industry analysts had predicted.

"We've... seen a strong response to both Halo 3 sales with more than 5 million, and Mass Effect which has sold more than a million copies in less than three weeks," Bell told GameDaily.

While clearly not in the same league as Halo 3, reaching a million units sold in only three weeks for a new IP is an excellent start and a strong indicator of future success for the planned second and third instalments in the trilogy. Whether or not the trilogy remains Xbox 360 exclusive, following EA's acquisition of BioWare, remains to be seen.
