A new game in the Mafia series could be announced “very soon”, judging by tweets from one of the series’ voice actors.

Rick Pasqualone, who played protagonist Vittorio ‘Vito’ Scaletta in Mafia 2, told a Twitter user earlier this week that he “might have some Mafia news very soon”.

“Might have some exciting news very soon,” he told another asking him to make Mafia 3.

2K has yet to announce a third game in the Mafia series, despite long-running rumours suggesting that it could be in development.

The game was first rumoured back in 2012, when it was reported that 2K Czech may be developing a new Mafia game for Xbox One and PS4.

The studio was later “relocated and consolidated” to a location in Brno, with some development resources sent to Novata, California. It’s unclear how the transition affected the game.

Mafia first released on PC back in 2002, with a sequel appearing on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in 2010.

2K told VideoGamer.com that it “doesn’t comment on internet rumour and speculation” when contacted about Pasqualone’s tweets.
