Capcom had to make cuts to the game in order to get it onto a single disc.

The original scope of Lost Planet 2 had to be scaled back because of the storage limitations of DVD, producer Jun Takeuchi has revealed.

Takeuchi has said that a significant amount of game had to be cut in order to fit the game on the Xbox 360's DVD media.

"The content that was cut was significant," said Takeuchi. "At the end, we had to wrestle with disc space."

Takeuchi added that deciding what got cut was a difficult task, leaving the team on the verge of crying as they removed elements to shrink down the game's footprint. It is, however, unlikely the content will be lost altogether, said Takeuchi.

"I think we could be able to add that content at a later date as downloadable content," he said.

If such significant cuts were made it begs the question why multiple discs weren't used.

Lost Planet 2 is scheduled for release on May 18 for Xbox 360 and PS3.

the truth here is that they will make craploads of money by allowing the gamers to add these scrapped things as DLC for the gamers to give them more hard earned money. These companies aren't stupid, they just like to spin it for good old PR sake.

I have a problem with this, why didnt they just make the game with more then one disk? Let me tell you why, so they can charge us another $20 dollars(for every episode of content) on top ofcharging $ 60 for the game. BULLs**t I TELL YOU BULLs**t

This is how I interpret it as well. Whereas the real reason is "We got to this stage in the game, realised it wont fit on a disk - so rather than optimise it we'll just cut out some of this superfluous filler and tell the internet we're too good for DVD"

Now that sensible people have joined this discussion, I think it is safe to enter. ;)

Yep, any excuse to hype up launch day chargeable DLC from the sounds of this.

Plus, ME2-style disc swapping is no problem whatsoever...

Nothing wrong with multi-disc games.

The whole cutting content to sell as DLC thing just reminds me of some of those "special offer" things you see just about everywhere these days. Buy the $200.00 steak knives and recieve a cook book absolutely free for just $20.00 + P&H...

Packaged or bonus content by pre-order is another matter all together imo. I'm not really a fan of the trend but I can see it becoming a huge sh!tfight.

Well an excuse for DLC is a certain, but like renegade said, PC players have never had to swap a disk this generation. So Either Capcom making bull up or they need to start adapting to the current console generation.

Ok PS3 has its advantage here, good for bluray. But its time to look at making progress with these awesome games, lets think of the user base its going on.

All it is, is a justification to charge for DLC on release day.

Agreed its an excuse to charge for DLC. This type of thing is becoming more common and is really starting to get on my tits.

DLC like the GTA episodes are great as its virtually another game, but it seem like more and more, develepors are just cutting content and selling it as DLC. Its a DISGRACE

Another possibility sorry if you call me a skeptic is that Capcom are making this whole thing up and are using this as a PR exercise to suggest that the game is bursting at the seams for 360 users with the intention of always releasing DLC.

If they are making cuts sounds retarded to announce that fact. Does it not?

Disc space is a poor excuse on Capcom's part - as stated by other people multiple discs or even DLC via a code with the game are two possible options.
Is this a bit of an excuse to charge some extra for DLC - lets face it it could easily fit on a blueray for the PS3 version but instead Capcom will now charge for the 'removed' content.

Surely it's just the company saying "Our game is so good it can't fit on a disc"?

Just another form of self promotion.
